Hi dan. How long have you been doing this?
Did you do much before the course?

cool bud. keep up the good work dan
love to stay in touch mate. i really like how you texture and light stuff. im ok with textures but could do with knowing a bit more, as in more realistic stuff. i like doing scenes like interiors. im starting a new model of our living room, that may eventually become the whole house but i really want to make it look real as possible and have all the little extras that lay around and not just furniture.Β
any advice is very welcome mate.
cheers

The best advise I can give is practice, practice, practice. Practice by creating things YOU want to create. Be it your house, a car, a fantasy figure, whatever.
other advise:
Don't be put off by challenges you think you might face doing these creations, embrace the challenge, learn from the challenge.
TheΒ answer to any problem you come across is out there on the web somewhere, and if not, you may be doing it wrong. So try a different way. Adapt.
Also, don't skip stages in the creation process.
Start with sketchs, get the idea out you head onto paper (or photshop).
Play with these ideas and develop them. Ive wasted so much time in the past by jumping straight in to 3DS Max and trying to make it up as I go.
Ive always landed up with a disjointed, awkward, clearly not thought out final product.
If you are creating something from real life, get as much reference as possible and study it. Learn everything you can about its shape and form before you
even create a basic shape. There is nothing worse than trying to change the topology flow on a model because you have just noticed a major flaw/difference to the real thing.
If you have any problems or questions, or just want an honest opinion (as I expect others to give me) just ask

wow , thanks dan. Thats great advice. I think that is my problem, i jump to far ahead. I just have ideas then start modelling. Im to impatient ha.
This is why i have lots of unfinished stuff. Also, I dont think i know enough in max yet. I know what i want but cant seem to do it.

Ive put it on hold for now. I found the model had limitations on its movement (pistons were wrong/too short) so it couldnt perform as much as I intended/wanted. At some point ill create V2.0 and try again. its a learning process!

Yeah animation really demonstrates the limitations of your model. Still first animation you did with it looked sweet, it can only get better.
