# About me
Musician, writer and rabid Formula 1 fan. I spend my time creating purple prose, practicing my bass guitar and wasting my life on DeviantArt.I aim to be wicked cultured, but I’m usually hamstrung by being brilliant, but lazy. Frequently the quiet one. Currently learning the basics of German, but it’s tough going sometimes – the grammar can be kinda tricky.
Likes: Coffee, chicks with red hair, the gothic subculture, heavy metal, Firefly, Daria, trance, Terry Pratchett, German things, sexy accents, Emilie Autumn and Amanda Palmer. Moved to Melbourne this year in order to indulge all of the above.
Dislikes: Boganism, and all sports that fall outside Hemmingway’s trinity of “bull fighting, mountaineering and motor racing.” Seriously guys, ball sports are lame. Get over it.
You can also find me on TVtropes (see link), and I've finally caved in and signed on with Facebook. I feel dirty.

Hey, great political forum post about stupid Americans. Those of us that are slightly more educated are a minority, but we try to learn what we can.

I wouldn't say you guys are uneducated, just insular. But thanks. I try to learn what I can too.

*smiles* Well, being in Kansas, I suppose I'm the most insular of all. We don't really have to deal with other countries like most people do.

How many boys from Kansas are in Afghanistan today, do you think? Besides, I live in Australia, and we don't even have to share this whole continent with anyone else. Just saying.

I have no idea how many people are in Afghanistan from Kansas. I'm afraid I can't speak intelligently about their experiences, not having researched them thoroughly nor experienced them firsthand. What I do know is that me, myself, living here, I don't see people from other countries, nor do I have to deal with them or their customs often. So I don't really 'get out'. Knowing about people who are elsewhere doesn't mean that I actually gain any experience about foreign culture unless I really really dig into the story.

I have no idea either, I just mentioned it as an illustration. For the record though, here in Coffs Harbour you run into people from everywhere and the kitchen sink. For starters it's a holiday hotspot, so every summer you run into families from all over Australia. Then there's the backpacker hostel down the hill from my house, so I run into German, Italian, Spanish, Finnish and especially British backpackers almost on a daily basis. On top of that our local baker is from South East Asia and has a name I can neither spell nor pronounce; the city's taken in a fair number of Somalian refugees; one of the Independent MPs trying to get elected yesterday is an Indian (or Pakistani, I'm not quite sure) named Arkan; and at the local lookout a friend and I once had lunch with a Saudi gentleman and his family, which turned out to be the most culturally awkward experience we've ever had.
None of this is a credit to me, except this: I love it! Australia's not perfect - we can't disown the Cronulla riots or Christmas Island - but just having all these people around has to make things better. It's a great system and I recommend it.

*shrug* I'm just a Kansan. I live my life as it comes at me. The only foreign people I know are illegal immigrants from Mexico, or people who have legally immigrated from Mexico or Central American countries. I have a few contacts in foreign countries like foreign exchange students. I went to England last year. Other than that, my foreign exposure is, and likely will remain, rather negligent. I don't really see what I can do about it.

Hey Dane,
Totally agree with you about what Coffs has missed the mark on and what Port has gotten right when it comes to the beachfront...
Also... whilst it may have felt to you like you were running a marathon, the worship sessions at conference were awesome to me... so thanks for being the faithful bass player!
Thirdly, it may not be your style, but if you want to check my blog out, go to [link]
