Thank you! My premise is that constant practice will result in improvement but it is a very slow process. Hopefully I will have improved a lot by the end of the year.
Oh! I only use very little medium for glazes, and I only glaze when I am unable to get the painting were I want it to be alla prima.
Mediums are overrated.

Thank you, but, see, we have a terminologies issue in understanding each other. For me a "wash" is a first layer done with very little paint and a lot of solvent, it is used for a fast staining of the canvas so the painter has a cue for the colors and meant to be covered up in a subsequent layer. if its not covered, it will disappear really fast after the painting is finished losing a lot of saturation.
As i paint alla prima, this fast staining would only make painting more difficult since it will blend with the paint put over it, I don't use it. I think what you want to say is gradient.
