I remember seeing some of your works some years ago, I found them quite inspiring. And you've got really interesting concepts, alien species, planets, spacecraft, megastructures, all things I adore!

SpaceInquiries [2017-11-12 03:33:31 +0000 UTC]

Was randomly reading a 2011 forum thread on cosmoquest when I spotted your username and thought hmmm that sounds familiar. Loved this sentence:

On the other hand, by 2111 automatic probes may be so sophisticated that humans won't need to go there at all in order to exploit Ceres fully. In which case humans may never travel to these far-flung destinations; this could be seen as a disappointment by many.Thoughts like this still bother me today. With AI getting ever closer to fruition and crewed space travel into deep space still decades away, will human space travel ever be anything than a performance art?

One (optimistic) way to look at this situation is that the robots and AIs that may eventually explore and exploit our galaxy would be our 'mind children'; we would happily consign the future of the universe to our biological offspring, so why should we not be proud to create robotic children who can adapt to the environments in space more readily than we can.
