I agree that the anonymity of the internet greatly contributes to people's ridiculous attitudes and statements. That's why many of the "Chan" image boards have forced anonymous- because people feel more bold to say things they never would under any other circumstances.
The thing is those kinds of boards are trying to promote randomness and flame wars for laughs whereas heavily moderated forums such as DA's are trying to promote healthy conversation.
As annoying as some posters can be, however, there is a thin line between a well moderated and an over moderated forum. I think the unrestricted flow of ideas is not such a bad thing. Even if you have to deal with people's stupid ideas and opinions, they are getting it off their chest and seem to eventually learn to "play by the rules."
Anyways, in my opinion, DA should be the middle ground between the pointless forums and the way-too-heavily moderated ones which restrict and censor the posters. And from what I see, it is.
