I've USED cameras my whole life (who HASN'T?), but it's only been give or take 6 years? At least that's when I made the jump to digital and really started in earnest to utilize my new toy. I was clunking around with a point-and-shoot and wanted so many more features. I missed my 35mm but didn't miss paying for film developing and then my lovely wife got me a D50 for my birthday. I didn't know I'd go this far with it, honestly. It's become an all-consuming hobby of mine. I'm really happy you like the photos I take. I dig abandoned buildings and the dark, sinister side of life. If only walls could talk. I'm kinda bummed the weather in WA has been so shitty lately. I really want to get out and shoot more, but it's so nasty most of the time. Well anyways, I wanted to write back and say that I appreciate the compliment. Come back anytime and see what I have to offer or add me to your watch list and I'll pop up from time-to-time. Take care!

Personaly I think it'd be disturbing if walls could talk. They see so many things... I started doing some photography last year and kind of enjoy it. I've been trying to get back into photography again but the weather is annoying. Why must WA be so rainy... (as soon as the weather clears up) I can't wait to see more of your lovely photo's.

I'll be out there too, as soon as I get a decent day. It's Washington. That's what it does here. It rains. It's either too wet or too hot for me to want to be out with my camera, but I still manage. Oh well. Good luck getting out. I'll post more when I can.

It WAS beautiful. Just so damn COLD! I wanted to get out in the snow to record it and then once out of my pickup decided I'd much rather be at home in front of the fireplace!

LOL I never really thought about it until you said that, but it really looks like it.. Now i will think of heartworm meds every time I use that emoticon.

I wonder if they have an emoticon that resembles a used orthotic insole. Or a blown-out, prolapsed colon. Hmm.

I'm trying to dig through all my older stuff and submit shots that don't have a lot of views yet still hold merit in my warped mind. So far it seems to be going okay. I'm incredibly broke at this time and don't have gas money to be out tooling around. Plus my hand hasn't healed up completely yet and holding a camera isn't much fun over long stints of time. I do what I can. Hope you're having better luck than I am...

All of your shots are great, so no worries on which ones you submit. I can relate. I haven't been able to get out much and take pictures either. And my fellow explorer has a new job and hasn't been able to go anywhere since June. For reasons discussed in the previous comment, I refuse to go alone. sorry to hear about your hand, I certainly hope you have a quick recovery!

I tripped on some high-tension cable at work and landed squarely on top of my right (dominant) hand with all 250 lbs. of ME, hyperextended my fingers all the way backwards 'til the fingernails touched the back of my palm, and my palm ripped wide open. I could see tendons and bones, so I knew it was probably wise to drive myself to the hospital before shock set in. Good times. I wrapped it up in electrical tape and took off. It was my own hand and it gave ME the willies looking at it. Thank God I didn't tear any tendons or end up with a compound fracture. Being an electrician is actually a lot of fun, but it's dangerous when you don't pay attention.
Yeah, I don't venture out without someone to watch my back and/or back me up in a dicey situation. I've disturbed squatters and drug users and other unfortunate people who are living in abandoned structures, and they're usually not too amenable to others poking around their "home". Hope you two can make it out before Winter hits. And hell, even when Winter DOES hit, there are Christmas lights and all sorts of pretty things out there to photograph! Good luck!

Oh damn! >.< Just reading this has made my hand hurt. Luck would be not having it happen at all, but I will still say you were VERY lucky not to have torn any tendons or a compound fracture. Mad props, no way in hell I would have been able to drive myself to the hospital. I probably wouldn't even have been able to wrap my hand!
Absolutely. You never know what could happen and better safe than sorry. I think the main reason I haven't run across anyone is that the houses are rural and in the middle of nowhere. The people in the hotel were probably there stealing copper. We stayed outside and photographed, after having heard them and quickly left, and we could hear what sounded like power tools. They passed by one of the windows, noticed my friend and I outside and quickly ducked back around the corner. I'm hoping to get out soon, I miss exploring abandoned places. And very true, I haven't done much with night shots, but christmas is the time to try it out!

Well my only tip on time-lapse photography is to get a good, sturdy tripod. You don't want something too cumbersome, but something too light will DEFINITELY blow over in the wind or you'll accidentally knock it with your boot and then the whole mess will go for a ride, and last I checked, cameras weren't cheap to replace. That, and make sure "Noise Reduction" is turned on in your settings. You'll definitely want to make sure that's in action, or else you'll have to Photoshop until your eyes bleed to get all the noise out of your photos.
The rest of it is up to you.
Do you have a shutter remote? I picked one up on eBay for like $16 and figured the rest of it out on my own. It's not hard to do, but if your Nikon doesn't have a backlit display (as is the case with my D50), be sure and bring a small flashlight. It's indispensable. One fun thing I did was pick up some colored theater lighting lenses (just opaque plastic concave circles) and use them with a very powerful flashlight to paint color onto your subjects while the shutter is open. It can be cool. The cool thing about digital is that you get IMMEDIATE results, too, so you can adjust your ISO and f-stop and all that accordingly. Beats the hell outta when I used to do it with my Nikon E 35mm back in the late 90's. I'd stand there with a notebook and pencil and record all my settings and blow through reams of film just to get a halfway decent shot. Nothing like what I do now. Anyways, I'm rambling. Yeah, HAVE FUN!

I have a pretty decent tripod. It's not too heavy, but it won't shift from a breeze. Yeah, I've heard cameras are pretty pricey as well. haha. I was messing around with my camera yesterday and turned it on actually.
I have taken a couple of pictures just messing around with light drawing. They are fun to look at and laugh about b/c my friend and I were just having fun with it. This is the tree, clouds and grass we made. But I did a 30 second shutter speed and we still had time left so we added some squiggles. haha! And This is our "Star Hi". Like I said, just good times having fun.
I do have a shutter remote, and i got it off of eBay. I was anti-digital for so long because it didn't seem as "hands on" but I have quickly become a huge digital fan. I know what you mean, I have a Nikon FM-10 and it was a pain to try and get night shots.
