God it's so exciting it's like CHRISTMAS wtf! I'm curious, how do you finish them after they come out of the mold? I just use wet-dry sand paper to round the edges down a little bit. Do you drill a hole in them when they are finished or do you put an attachment for hanging in while the resin is still wet? I've found there are a lot of artists who do this kind of work who feel uncomfortable talking about the process for whatever reason, so if you don't want to answer that's alright.. I just like to compare to find better and new ways to do things. :3

It really is like getting presents! And since I haven't actually made any sales I've been wearing most of my pieces around.

After taking them out of the molds I trim the edges with super sharp fabric scissors (that aren't so sharp anymore after cutting through all that resin!) and sand down the rough parts.

I've been embedding eye pins in the back and over filling the molds so that the back is nice and flat and the pin is good and secure. I hate how so many crafters are all secretive about their process! I love to share how I do things. If that inspires someone else that's even better! How would we learn if no one ever shared their knowledge?

Sometimes I use those nice aanraku bails too. I glue them on the back with E6000 glue. They look so fancy!

I love finding new ways to do things too! One thing I learned in art school: Communication is so important. Conversation is how ideas evolve and how processes are perfected. I love to learn from other artists/crafters and I hope they learn from me too! Good luck with your resin stuff. Keep it up!

ooh, I'll have to learn what these aanraku bails are! I'm so happy that you're open to discussion on techniques and stuff like this, it's what art communities are all about, or should be, imo :3

I agree! I think it's really sad that people feel they need to guard their techniques like bulldogs for fear of people "copying". Maybe it's just because I went to art school for Fine Arts but I love to talk about how things are made and learn new ways of making things. I take what I learn and build new ways of doing things that suit me better. Why does everything have to be so secretive? In school we talked and talked and talked about making things, about techniques, about new ways to construct. It was great and I learned so much! But on the internet everything is about shouting at people for copying and being mean. Is it because of the anonymity? Or are people just that opposed to letting others learn from them? WEIRD I SAY!

Totally. it's just that Special Snowflake syndrome that is so sadly prevalent with artists- In school environments thank god we're usually expected to act like adults. Usually anyone who's worth their salt as an artist wont be so uptight about sharing- I mean how did they get where they are? learning from photos and works made by other artists before them.
