Yes, I find it's hard to get a good balance of shadow and highlighting... I usually like to edit to make things darker, haha.

Cool! Abandoned buildings are the best... There is an abandoned insane asylum in a town an hour or so from where I live... I really want to go there to do some pictures, it looks cool.

Hi. Sorry your question about the Canon S5 IS got locked so I'll Reply here.
I've owned the S5 IS for a little over a year now. Here's my advise on Lens. Get A wide angle first. You'll use it ten times more than the Telephoto. I have both the Canon OEM lenses. I love the Canon Wide angle, but If I had it all to do over again I'd go with the Raynox 2025 on the Telephoto.
Be sure to buy a converter tube for each of the accessory lenses you buy. Screw it in once and leave it on the converter. (This saves your lens threads and enables you to change lenses just as fast as a DSLR.)
Once you start using lenses. You will need a flash. The Built in flash will not clear the lenses and will leave a bid circular shadow on the bottom of your image. If your on a budget I suggest the Canon Speedlight 270 EX for around $150.00. The 270 EX Speedlight is much improved over the older 220 EX Speedlight in that the 270 EV has a tiltable array and can do bounce flash.
To Get the Most out of your S5 IS. You'll need to google up several pieces of Software. The first of which is CHDK. CHDK (Canon Hacker Development Kit) is a program that you load onto 4GB SDHC cards behind a fat 16 partition. When you turn your S5 IS on with this newly programed card in place. It basically fools your S5 into thinking it's a Canon D450. It Allows the S5 to take RAW+Jpeg and turns on all manner of other features that Canon had neutered out of the Powershot cameras.
As with most smaller sensor camera's of this type Image Noise above ISO 200 is your greatest problem. This can be solved using a program called "Neat Image" (Google it.)
