# About me
I would like to call myself an artist but I fall far short of anything that would entitle me to carry that designation. I do create. I have built several kayaks and enjoy woodworking. I enjoy making jewelry and trying to master making mokume gane. I also ride dressage. And of course I take pictures. One of the things that occurred to me was how easy it is to miss much of the world around you. You overlook the forrest for the trees. So I started a project to record some of the smaller denizens of the local are where I live. Then I narrowed it down even more. I am frequently taking pictures of the ecosystem on a fir tree.
I actually started this project with my iPhone X and a set of macro lenses. The lenses were about $18. I was impressed with the results. The one difficulty was that you have to get real close.
Now I have had a Canon Rebel T1i for a very long time (since they came out) and have a Canon 100mm macro lens. That lets me get a little farther away from my subjects. Important when the subject stings and you are allergic to that sting. I added a 2X extender (they say you canβt but you can . You just lose auto focus). That allows me to be almost three feet away from my subject with 1:1 capability intact.
The T1i is a pretty good camera but has a limited dynamic range, a very narrow ISO capability and by the time you hit about ISO800 the noise gets pretty bad.
Enter a Canon 80D. Everything I have done so far has been JPG just because I wanted to test that out. As you can see in my shot Friend there is an amazing capability even at ISO 12000. So my exploration goes on.
