Well, a local gallery has accepted some of my work to show. That's been a big deal to me. Feels like getting some credibility. Hoping something will actually sell. Glad all is going well for you.

"I read some kind of study that concluded that being ignored has worse physiological effects on people than being abused. I think it might be true."

just read that from one of your earlier comments, and now I feel bad

I suppose I'll try to be a pro-active DA member

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cheshire118 In reply to faber451 [2006-01-14 23:42:46 +0000 UTC]

Do not feel bad!! Not on my account, anyway. For a while, my participation in DA was a bit of a trial for me. Must have had expectations of the group that were not met. No longer have any DA expectations at all. Therefore, anything good that happens as a result of my participation is gravy. I may be pulling out of DA anyway, or at least pulling back. I'm taking a ps course, and as the assignments become more complex, I find I have less time for posting and commenting. I'll just have to see how it goes. Anyway, do not feel bad. That's my directive for today.

Alright, I think there should be a round of absolvements all around then!

My scanner is fucked (which is one of the reasons for my lack of submission, but it seems to be behaving properly for the time being, so I'll scan some stuff in I've done, as mentioned earlier. Good to hear from you too, by the way.

faber451 In reply to Cheshire118 [2006-01-14 22:47:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm still here, but I've been absent. Sorry

I sort of stopped producing/looking at art. For a while. but I've got a couple of scans here for your viewing pleasure, or should in a little while. Again, sorry for the absense, I don't know why I've been neglecting the community. I guess I'm back now

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cheshire118 In reply to faber451 [2006-01-14 23:36:10 +0000 UTC]

Faber!!! Good to hear from you! Neglecting the community? What community? DA wants to think it's a community, but it's really an interest group. If you want to be back, then be back. Great. Otherwise, no need to feel concern. There are really big things in this world to worry about. Worry about those things. I'll check your scans. I'm sure they're interesting work.

Thanks very much for the fave on my courthouse hallway shot. The hallway photo in your gallery has some of the same feeling. Maybe it's just the nature of empty hallways.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

faber451 In reply to Cheshire118 [2005-07-25 04:53:47 +0000 UTC]

Glad you like the picture! And I think you might be right. There's something strange about them. Actually, when i think "empty hallway", i often think about how strange it is to see something that is so obviously intended for occupation by people to be so empty! it's a bit of an eerie feeling. Empty hallways are interestingly atmospheric places, if that makes any sense

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cheshire118 In reply to faber451 [2005-07-25 05:05:10 +0000 UTC]

Hey, maybe we're onto something --empty hallways as a whole genre. Of course, finding them empty (or finding a way to empty them) may be a problem.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

faber451 In reply to Cheshire118 [2005-07-25 19:45:41 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I've seen my fair share of empty hallways. When I get a new scanner *glares at the broken one* I'll post another neat shot of the empty lobby of my school! Great shot, and chock full of emotion

Though I think it might be an interesting genre. We should petition DA to add it as a category Art > Photography > Empty-Hallways

Sounds like a plan. I really do think empty hallways are cool. I should start hunting around for neat looking ones!

Cheshire118 In reply to faber451 [2005-07-26 02:29:00 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for adding me to your friends. I'm looking forward to seeing the hallway shot that is waiting to be scanned. I understand the problem of not getting feedback or other messages. I read some kind of study that concluded that being ignored has worse physiological effects on people than being abused. I think it might be true. For now, you might need to be pro-active in checking out other galleries. I'm new to DA, and I look around a lot. Probably once you get another scanner, your images will start bringing a ton of messages to you. In the meantime, look for hallways, hallways.

Oh hey, no problem about the 2 's, I like your stuff. Thanks for the compliment too And yes, I'm slightly interested in 3D or computer generated artwork. I downloaded POVRay the other day, which is a free ray tracer, but have yet to figure out how to work it properly -- you must define the shapes and sizes of objects by typing out extremely complicated instruction files. But anyway, thanks for visiting, and I hope you liked some of the stuff here. Once I get my hands on a new scanner, I should be able to post more of my work!

Thank you for the information too 3D is one of my fave aspects as well, but you know I still need to learn more about it since it looks like a bit "difficult", but I believe that we can all try I would like to make more variation on my works ... Is that POVRay a plug-in for 3D max? what do you mean by free ray tracer (is it only for tracing?)

Thank you once again

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

faber451 In reply to fractalspirit [2005-07-22 01:22:54 +0000 UTC]

POVRay is a standalone computer program which you can download here [link] By "free" I mean it's freely available for download, and as for "ray tracer" I mean it's used for creating digital images of seemingly real things, with real lighting/shadow and realistic surface textures. Some of the best POVRay renders can't be told apart from actual photographs. It uses some really advanced lighting techniques -- like if you have a prism in your picture, and a strongl ight source, a rainbow will appear on the surface the prism is sitting on! It just does neat things like that.

Check out the povray website at here [link]

For an example of what POVRay can do, go here [link] or here [link]
