I didn't used to think much of abstracts until I saw your work. Their vaguely organic whirls and explosions are inspirational. What do you use to make them? Is it all 3D or a mix? Have you done any non-abstract modelling and rendering?

Recently I've been using Bryce for 3d stuff, but before that it was all exclusively Apophysis, which makes flame fractals. [link]
