JAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMEEEEEEZZZZZ!!!!! How have you been? Summer's coming, and we have some major Pooch Pants to work on. I have an illustration class next semester, so I'll be able to do PP 24/7. I have some newly composed pictures (drawn, yet to be painted) of the market scene, the abominable snowman, and a few more potential scenes. I'm going to get out some big canvases and oil paints at home and see what I can do with that. It shall be of thaumaturgic proportions. If you end up in Pittsburg then we should meet up in our first break. And your avatar is teh awesome...

Ehhh...it's both awesome and terrible. The workload is considered by the faculty to be much harder than Harvard, so it's hardly a joke. On the other hand, we have awesome teachers and a lot of the kids are cool.

On the other hand, a lot of the kids here are absolutely terrible. Half the kids here are nut cases of the third kind. Manic depression is the new black, apparently.

I've been hanging out with the juniors and seniors, a reclusive bunch, and playing a LOT of Halo. And avoiding work. And getting plastered, despite the fact that I received 2 social probations (the equivalent of a suspension) for drinking and narrowly got off unharmed.

Sheesh. What crazy times.

So what college are you planning on going to?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

failsafeman In reply to googlyminotaur [2006-03-24 02:27:27 +0000 UTC]

Manic depression has always baffled me; manic boredom is another story, of course, but depression? Maybe if those people didn't listen to emo all the time they wouldn't be so down. I would probably make fun of them if I were there.

As for colleges, like I said I won't be hearing back from most places until March 31st or so, but I've already gotten into the Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh, and they've given me some money (with the possibility of more), so it looks like a pretty good bet. I know some people who go there, and it's pretty close to home (3-4 hour drive depending on traffic), so even though it's not my first choice, it's a fine school and I'd have no problem going there.

How's Cameron doing? And any time one or both of you guys want to come out here for a week or whatever is cool with me (and my parents), we've got the space, and I'm not going anywhere for a while. Transport shouldn't be a problem; you get yourselves to a nearby airport (probably Buffalo) and we'll pick you up.

Well, I'll make it down as soon as I get the chance. Simon's Rock is academic death. I might get a chance to hang out over a weekend, at the very least. I have lots of funny stories about all the crackheads here.

Yeah, you probably would be making fun of all the kids here. That's all I ever do. It's actually sort of coming back to bite me in the ass. I have a serious bone to pick with these two dudes (one's a racist, the other's a full-blown Neo-Nazi).

Other than that, everyone is inspidly leftist, to a degree that even send chills down MY spine. Chills.

Yeah, I'm working on a renaissance-style portrait of God right now, it's pretty big. At least 3 times the size of my normal drawings. I wish PP the best, and remind Cameron of his duty as chief illustrator. Cameron is OK, actually. He's doing better academically, and we've been hanging out together, a LOT more than usual.

Well, I'm off to a hearty game of X-Box. How I ever sold out to that platform, Lord only knows.

Sorry about not responding to anything... a lot's been going on up here in this God-forsaken college (God-forsaken as a good thing, of course).

Anyhoo, I'll be trying to set up long-distance calling crap soon, so do not despair quite yet. Once it happens, we'll be set to continue work, but it might take a few days.

Oh, and there's a girl here who's dabbling in the dark arts of metal and might need some advice. She doesn't like Opeth, but she's into Tristania (I'm not sure what stance I have on them at the moment) but yeah, giving me some names to convert her wouldn't be bad.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

failsafeman In reply to thirdwaltz [2005-09-02 22:43:37 +0000 UTC]

No problem, I've been pretty busy here as well...I've recently started working on the project again, and though I haven't made too mcuh progress, I have gone back and edited (and added things into) the previous parts. Production will be up to full capacity soon, though.

And as for metal recommendations, start with the basics: Heavy Metal. No Metalhead should be without Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and so forth. Girls also sometimes like Doom Metal, so Paradise Lost's "Gothic" might be a good bet, as well as anything by Pentagram (fromt the US), Cathedral, or Witchfinder General. Also, you can't go wrong with some classic Thrash, so give the Big Four a try: Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica, and Slayer. If she's more into the melodic side of metal, try giving her some Power or Prog, like Blind Guardian or Dream Theater. Really, there's something in Metal for anyone's tastes. Also, you don't have to mention me, just pretend that you're the one who knows all this stuff. You'll look so cool she might even forget you're a Mugwhump. And when in doubt, check [link]

Good luck at college, man, and don't forget the Project Pants!!!!

Bad news! I'm being dragged away to teh Operazors on Sundorz! I'm leaving the directions to get to TEH METAL STORZORS!

Go to teh Tiergarten-zorz (just to be clear, it's the one near Zoo-zorz) and leave the S-Bahnhof. Look for the big gate that's under repairs. In the foreground to the view of the gate there should be a lot of people and a lot of market stands. In other words, between the Bahnhof and the Station is the market.

The metal stores are located generally to the far left of the exit leading directly to the market (there's only one exit that really obviously directs people to the market, use that as a reference).

From there, as I said before, head left. There are pitched tents full of CDs all around the opening of the market streets.

Even if you don't find them, take a look at the whole market (they're really hard to miss). There's also a lot of good stuff. However, some of this stuff is packed up AT FOUR, so be speedy, compadre.

Good Luckorz, and remember to look for an antique print shop towards the far end of the market, there's a crazy dude that, if you get Cam to speak to him in Spanish, will give you guys TONS of cool engraving prints pretty much for free.

Lots of cool anatomy prints there, worth it even if it's not your taste.

Actually, this isn't even an issue; turns out my host dad's dad's (i.e. host grandfather's) birthday is tomorrow, so I won't be able to do anything anyway. What days are the market open? I've got no school this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, so if you blow off your language school (you know you want to) one of those days, we can go then.

And what about today? I've been trying to contact kiddles, but no one's been answering the phone.

Hails, brother of metal!

I just had to say that I think your devious ID is bullshit for the following reason:
The "right wing" and fascism do not give more economic freedom. They give the "freedom" to exploit and enslave other humans, which is no freedom at all.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 2

googlyminotaur In reply to NumberoftheBeast [2005-04-19 14:30:05 +0000 UTC]

Governments operating under fascism recieve absolute power over economy. Democracies do not.

The freedom to exploit other humans is the greatest liberty there is. In theory, and if it's unconditional, it's almost better than personal freedom.

I'm not libertarian, I consider myself a moderate liberal. Nonetheless I have to pitch in to ~failsafeman 's argument by pointing out that your argument is damn bogus.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

NumberoftheBeast In reply to googlyminotaur [2005-04-19 17:19:24 +0000 UTC]

googlyminotaur -

Your argument only works if you consider exploitation and slavery to be a positive thing.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

googlyminotaur In reply to NumberoftheBeast [2005-04-19 20:57:39 +0000 UTC]

Not really. Freedom isn't an inherrently good thing. For instance, freedom to punch you in the face.

And kudos on jumping my other arguments, bet you feel real bright now.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

NumberoftheBeast In reply to googlyminotaur [2005-04-21 01:11:02 +0000 UTC]

Personal freedom that infringes on the personal freedom of others is no freedom at all.

Jumped your other arguments? What other arguments? Sorry, I don't catch your drift...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

googlyminotaur In reply to NumberoftheBeast [2005-04-23 17:10:30 +0000 UTC]

Jumped your other arguments?

Oh, I NEVER! Me? Avoid being wrong? What do you take me for, a LIAR?

Personal freedom that infringes on the personal freedom of others is no freedom at all.

Only if you're a ditsy little hippie-chick altruist flower-presser, yes, you're right.

But absolute personal freedom is doing whatever I want, and I want a playing-card castle, I want Mongolian Hordes of Destruction, and I want slaves just like in the Candy Shop video .

THAT's personal freedom. Maybe not for the fools I would subject to my Hordes of Asian Badassery, like you, but for ME.

My point is that personal freedom is doing and getting whatever whenever, which is hedonist Utopianism.

Democracy gives everybody equally few rights, not equally many.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

NumberoftheBeast In reply to googlyminotaur [2005-04-25 23:42:41 +0000 UTC]

Ignoring the personal bash (which I am still too stupid to understand, since I thought you only made one argument, which I responded too),

an absolute monarch would have perfect freedom in your scenario. Almost that of a god. But everyone else gets almost nothing. So, how is that a good thing? It seems to me that the Utilitarian approach is the most fair and objective way of determining freedom. I'm sure you aren't actually promoting the idea of slavery, so why do you think that restricting the ability of one person to exploit another person is bad?

p.s. I want Mongolian Hordes of Destruction too, to go along with my ditsie little hippie-chick altruistic flower-pressing.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

googlyminotaur In reply to NumberoftheBeast [2005-05-03 21:28:52 +0000 UTC]

an absolute monarch would have perfect freedom in your scenario. Almost that of a god. But everyone else gets almost nothing.

OK, there you have it. Perfect, undiluted freedom. THAT'S Freedom. There is no other 'Freedom'. There are no degrees of 'Freedom'. We can all posess freedoms, but Freedom? I think not. That's reserved for the Dictator himself.

It seems to me that the Utilitarian approach is the most fair and objective way of determining freedom.

There is no way to call something fair AND objective. Fairness is an ideal, objectivity exists to undermine ideals.

Furthermore, governments like democracy in the USA are simply elected monarchies, where we can move and act VERY minimally. We can make noise, we can draw shapes, we can zip along very specific places and buy only what is allowed. Our houses are not ours unless we play along with Society's game, and Society doesn't throw anyone who wants out a bone so easily.

Oh, but we can burn posters of Bush, we are FREE! Sorry, Chuck. The fact that other societies are even more backwards doesn't vouch for the superiority of ours.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

NumberoftheBeast In reply to googlyminotaur [2005-05-10 05:23:01 +0000 UTC]

That's exactly how I feel. America is no democracy, whatever way you look at it. And we are making leaps and bounds backwards.

NumberoftheBeast In reply to failsafeman [2005-04-13 23:42:18 +0000 UTC]

heh. You can think what you will. I was just stating my opinion that capitalism is merely another means for those in power to control and oppress the second-class citizens of a society.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

failsafeman In reply to NumberoftheBeast [2005-04-14 13:21:15 +0000 UTC]

If you allow yourself to think for a moment, you will realize that those in power are IN power because they have the economic freedom to BUY power. Second-class citizens are POOR not because they are oppressed, but because it's their own damn fault. Now, obviously this isn't always true in the real world, but economic freedom is exactly what left-wing economic models (for example socialism) deny when they redistribute income.

And please, if someone is actually intelligent, no amount of "oppression" can prevent them from actually making something of themselves. Oppression is usually just something "second class" citizens can say so they don't have to take responsibility for their own state of affairs. Now, I'm not glorifying right-wing politics here, but I'm just pointing out that the left-wing and the right-wing are really pretty much equally bad (at least ideally). Libertarianism is where it's at.
