What is this group about?HEYYY!!
My name's =shehrozeameen and I welcome you to #PoetrynProseWatchers.
This group is basically carrying the legacy and ideology of #Poetry-Watchers. And what is that ideology, I hear ya'll ask?
Its simple: submit your favourite prose and poetry deviations!
still confused?
As a member, you find yourself with works which are simply awesome... they're too awesome to resist... so you feature them... but not everyone gets exposure.
Thus, this group came into being: So that all of you can be given the privilege of not only my favourite deviations, but also your favourite deviations are shared as well. They'll get features, group exposure, even themed identification of why they're awesome to begin with!
So, how does it work? What's the method:
you submit to the poetry and prose folders only. Features are selected by the contributors, founder and co-founder. Anyone can apply for the contributor position - send me a and I'll send you the inv

Well, what do you know, I am a Science student myself!

Yay! What are you studying? I never thought I would be interested in pursuing a science degree. It seemed wrong because I wrote... took me a while to appreciate how much more I could write about if I expanded my interests. (I just decided to switch last spring).

I study Physics. I have been interested in it since childhood. writing came to me quite recently, so I am still learning. I love physics because it inspires me to write good stuff.

That's awesome! I haven't taken any physics yet, but we did some physics-related problems in my last math class and it was pretty cool. I'm excited to take it, just have to get chemistry and bio out of the way first.

Bio and Chemistry are pretty good subjects themselves. In fact, there is something called Biophysics which I plan on pursuing sometime later (right now I am more into Astrophysics), and it is a truly wonderful subject. Problem is, I am not good at Chemistry (I got 69% marks in that, rest were 90%) so Chemistry was not really my choice.
But bio, especially biotech, is awesome.

It wasn't until I graduated high school that I became a good student (good marks AND a pretty thorough understanding of the subjects I was learning). Bio and chemistry, though, were my comeback subjects - when I started doing the work and trying to understand the material I got As on the final and practical exams. Math, though, was horrible to me. Last year though it turned out to be my favorite (and best) subject. So I decided to take the science classes this year and switch. I started last year scraping along the classes I needed for English. I have a ways to go but intend to go into forensic pathology. (You only live once, might as well go for your dream job).

I see. Well, in my country, we don't really have such a flexible system of education in the higher classes. Nonetheless, Science has always fed my writing, enriching it with either analytic depth, or with sublime grandeur.
Though, these days my interest in literary arts is growing phenomenally. Science is like a window to look at nature, and that is what I like to write about best. When you look at natural phenomenon happening, with all its poetic greatness, you then understand that most of them are just because some electrons arrange themselves in certain manners, pulling apart, or flowing through metallic conductors, or just these numerous fields vibrating all around, moving through empty space, changing with our own observations.
Ah! These things are what I love to write about best.
What do you like to write about best?

That's what I've been noticing - science enriches my writing. It provides structure, and gives me something to write about too. My prose - most of my writing - is about the characters. A lot of my stories are about how humans interact with others and with themselves. But I also love historical and science fiction.

Yes, historical and science fiction stories are always a treat to read. Though, I am not a very successful writer of either as of yet, I love to enjoy the ones written by others.
My favourite author is E.A. Poe. And Tolkien.
Who is yours?

Jules Verne, J.K. Rowling, and Tolkien are the authors I've read multiple books by and love. Some authors I enjoyed and want to read more of are David Mitchell, Vladimir Nabokov, and Haruki Murakami. My favorite book (The Last Unicorn) is by Peter S. Beagle, but I haven't read his other books.

I may have read Haruki murakami, though I haven't actually read his works. Most of my readings are Victorian era stuff. Nabokov I wanted to read, but didn't, for some reasons, and neither have I read Mitchell and Peter Beagle.
I really feel very under-read right now.
But I would love read what I can! Except that my coursework sucks time and I don't really get time to read a lot.

Don't worry! Coursework is a pain when it comes to reading. Even my English coursework was a pain when it came to reading (last year during spring and summer quarter I had one of those professors who forgets we have other classes, and sanity).
I love Victorian era works - some of them. Others are too dry and the writers are full of themselves (oh, especially the further back in history you read - those English Restoration guys can shove it). I think that's what attracted me to Verne and other Victorian authors like Charlotte Brontë (I loved Jane Eyre) - they have unconventional stories and characters who defy expectations.
Nabokov is someone you should read. I have yet to read his books other than Lolita, but it was a gem. Aside from the subject matter, I think the reason Lolita is so controversial is because the characters are very human. Nabokov gives them humanity in a way that most writers would be scared to do. His prose is not just amazing for a native Russian speaker; I'm a native English speaker and I am floored by how much control Nabokov showed in his English.
David Mitchell wrote Cloud Atlas, which became a movie last year. The movie deals with the structure of the novel in an interesting way and a lot of critics thought it would be impossible to adapt. I think it does the book a reasonable amount of justice, but the book is gutsy and more dimensional. It's probably my second favorite behind The Last Unicorn and above Lolita. Mitchell is a genius writer and the reason I loved the novel so much, without going into too much detail in case you know nothing about the story whatsoever, is that he used a variety of prose styles based on who was narrating the story and even wrote a 60 page chapter in dialect.
As someone whose style varies by inches depending on the character who is narrating the story (especially in first person, because it's their story, not mine), that was awesome for me. So awesome.

Very sadly, I have not read either Mitchell or seen the Movie (I will make it a point to do so). My exams are coming nearer so I am sliding off dA a little these days.

Your gallery is a thing of beauty. You're gonna blow that English major out of the water.
It's hard to believe that people have treated someone as kind and intelligent as you so wastefully...but I hope you know that your work shows more strength and character than anyone could ever hope to steal.
Hope you have a beautiful afternoon and stay safe.

Thank you.
I only just saw this comment. I'm thinking about switching to another major, just to pursue another interest of mine (it also pays better than careers related to English, but that's not the reason I want to choose it over English).
It makes me happy when others are interested in my work. My character is a work in progress, and my main goal at the moment is to have a healthier relationship with my work. Unfortunately as of late that means allowing myself to enjoy other subjects and put it on the backburner, but I'll always write. It's a huge part of me.

You're writing makes me feel like I can't claim the name of writer. I'm a children's fantasy writer, but it's not the medium I usually express on deviantart.

februaryblue In reply to NutmegFluff [2013-03-29 17:54:56 +0000 UTC]
Nonsense! I think that anyone who feels words the way some people feel music or painting, anyone who feels that has every right to consider themselves a writer. But either way - I'm really glad that you seem to like it, and thank you very much (*checking your gallery anyways*).
My preferential genre for prose isn't represented in a lot of my gallery either. I don't consider myself a poet, I consider myself a novelist. I have one story that's semi-autobiographical, a couple Gothic/Romantic novels, love science fiction, and have another novel that's kind of a modern hero's journey with a Byronic anti-hero for a protagonist. DeviantART galleries are misleading!

Hi... I've been trying to post literature pieces onto Deviantart for quite some time but can't figure out how to upload them. How do you do it?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
februaryblue In reply to starcat72 [2013-02-07 18:15:24 +0000 UTC]
Hi! On the toolbar at the top of the page there's an option called "Submit". Hover over it and click "Submit Art" (it's the first option). It'll take you to the upload page, underneath "Choose File to Upload" there is an option to "Enter Text". You can either enter text directly from there OR you can upload a word document, I believe, but I just use the "Enter Text" option. Then you can enter a title, keywords, and description. On the new dA submission page the mature content check box is easier to find, but make sure you click it otherwise it won't let you submit.
Then choose a search category for your deviation - one under literature - and once you've entered all the required fields the "Submit Now" button should turn green and you can submit the deviation.
