Hello Steph,

Maybe tight drawings are not your artistic language, as sketchy spontaneous work is not mine. Even though I work very tight and render with a draftsman’s eyes, I do not dismiss loose work at all. Actual I love the flow of line, the wonder of negative versus positive space, and the magic of what seems a “simple rendering” but it takes the eye of a very engaged artist to pull of. I feel it’s a poetic celebrating of the life around us. I equate my artistic language more like a novel.

I love all kinds of work that I could never do and in some ways have no interest in doing. You could very well draw in this tight manner and just hate the process that would be a sad thing and it would never ring true.

Every once in a while I do a sketch that’s good, natural and spontaneous but not when I “try” it just happens.

Thank you Steph, for the kind words about “Sandman”, I agree that the tight graphite drawings lets me play with abstraction, symbolism and experiment in deconstructive techniques, without the fundaments I would be relying on luck and luck alone. Still I feel like I hit one out of four, so I keep pulling up the chair, sharpening the pencil and once more I give it a shot. Thanks again

You found the hair! Dowh! Ouch and all that!! I think I left that when I planted it. I noticed after I posted, sort of hoped nobody else would see it! I ruined a bizarre "egg" shot because I accidentally dropped a hair in the mix....it wasn't as if I was going to eat the colorful goo, it was just for the picture, but that hair completely dropped me out of the competition. Maybe someday, I'll get a hair cut. Well, then again....

To post an old drawing, one i didn''t like that much myself, and then get such warm comments is more than i deserve Your compliment gives me real confidence, just makes me blush for years i've struggled on hand-drawing, trying to improve myself with tears, blood etc and i stilll have a long way to go (with drawing in general) but it feels great to share it with fellow artists and get so much response.
