I agree with you! ^_^ And it's great that you feel so strongly about it, since now days all the holidays are pretty much about presents/decorations or stuff like that. Even here they started selling christmas decorations right after Halloween! I think we should always remember the historic backgrounds why we celebrate these holidays, since that's the most important thing about them...

Yes, that's exactly true about losing sight of the real reasons for holidays.
Once, on the news, a salesperson got trampled at the enterence of a mall/Walmart on Black Friday moments after the doors opened at 4:00 AM (I forgot exactly what time, but it was early). He died. That just goes to show the craziness of the world, especially the US.
Ah, yes, the historic backgrounds... I still can't keep a straight face in History class... *^_~*
You bet I'm going to do something Christmas related for Hetalia! Should be easy for you in Finland to get into the Christmas spirit (considering Finland showed up as "Santa Claus/St. Nicholas" in an actual episode of Hetalia!)!

Whoa Never heard of something like that happening in Finland... But seriously! That's just horrible!
I'm the same! xD Once, teacher showed some notes we had to copy and there it said "PrussiaItaly vs. Austria", meaning Prussia and Italy were together against Austria, but you can imagine what reaction I had. I had a hard time trying not to laugh.
Usually I guess Here the Christmas preparations start about a month before Christmas. "Christmas is a time of waiting" is what is said here, since for most Finns it's a religious holiday. Wating for the birth of Christ, four weeks before Christmas eve on a Sunday we light a candle, which kind of represents that we've started to wait for the Christ. The next 3 sundays we light 3 more candles, so the last Sunday before Christmas we have all 4 candles lit. The Sundays are called the Advent Sundays and today is the first one. (I don't know if you have this tradition in America) For me, these little days before Christmas that still have the meaning they originally had, get me in the Christmas spirit.
Ahaha I talked alot...
But Santa Claus actually comes from Finland, not from North Pole like some Americans believe...

Yeah, THAT would definitely makes me at least snicker or, if I completely lost it, roll out of my seat clutching my stomach as I laugh but then stand up and declare, "I DISAPPROVE PruIta! GO PRAU!!!"

But then I would have quite a lot of explaining to do... Yaoi... "It's Young Athletes On Ice!" (I told my little brother just in case he got suspicious, because lately he's been popping up when ever I watch a pairing video...)

I'm only a freshman (I just turned 14 on the 8th of Nov!! *^_~*) in high school so I'm taking World History, (freshmen don't get to choose their classes) but I'm going to try to take British Lit. once I'm a junior!

*quick question: What's the school system like in Finland? I'm just curious because I think it's kind of imperative to know about other cultures especially when the internet makes it so each to communicate. About the holiday...

The closest thing to that tradition here is Kwanzaa or Hanukkah... I'm not Christian so I'm not exactly sure of what Christians here do, but my Grandfather is and he used to bring me to midnight mass when I was little (but there's been some complications between my grandparents and family so... I don't really know where they are...)
