hi, I've created an account here, thanks for pointing me out this site (beason, lyc and you saw me at ompf.org). Your renderer gladius gives some really good results, they appear very life like. And of course on top of that you use it to represent beautiful things (like Twisted Spirals 0.1). Thats 2 very different talents joined

Thank you very much, and welcome on dA

May I note that this account is my old one and I don't use it anymore. The new one is (accordingly to my nick on ompf.org) at ~phresnel

oh, btw, just so I don't forget
I found a nice new insteresting formula, which I searched for, like, forever!

http://www43.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=sgn(sin(x*pi))*cos(asin(2*asin(sin(x*pi%2Bpi%2F2))%2Fpi))

copy and paste to see

frequency and stuff can be altered just the same way as with a standard sine-wave

hehe cool, that is a pretty neat function

YAY circular waves! ^^
Now I finally can make them audible

i wonder what the fourier transform of this function is

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kram1032 In reply to lyc [2009-05-31 09:26:59 +0000 UTC]

well, I've no idea ^^
would be interesting indeed
http://www43.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=fourier+sign(sin(x*pi))*cos(asin(2%2Fpi*asin(sin(x*pi))))

they have limited computation times... seemingly, it's too slow to find it that way... :S

blame me for not being mathematically inclined as much as you: how does the curve exactly differ from a normal sine curve? I see small differences, but how are they useful?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kram1032 In reply to greenhybrid [2009-05-30 09:54:40 +0000 UTC]

well, it's a circular wave. it "hits the zero" with 90°.
I have no idea how interesting it might be for you: I acutally made it for making it audible^^ (wanted to know, how waves sound, which look like circles/elipses)
you'd just have to try how the function gives different results

I now know how it sounds...
horrible xD
as I already thought, it's kind of in between sine and rectangular (sounding not much better than rectangular)

greenhybrid In reply to kram1032 [2009-06-03 14:17:38 +0000 UTC]

that reminds me of myself being a big fan of hearing those sounds on radio, those you can get between real radio station frequences, ..., hmm, that sounds like space soughs. you know? i love that sound! it's like hearing, uhm, space or so i already loved it as a child.

kram1032 In reply to greenhybrid [2009-06-03 20:12:02 +0000 UTC]

well, that's white noise, made from ALL frequencies
Pure waves in general tend to be boring and or anoying.

I know what you mean, though
just if you wanna know how circular waves sound:

Hehe, yes. I see tons of imagery in your gallery, looks like you're making some interesting progress with your fractals I am always a fan of nebula'ish fractals that look like, uhm, nebulas

Also, looks like you were on some nice trips. Had fun?

And what's up there? With picogen and redshift? ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

greenhybrid In reply to kram1032 [2009-05-29 12:19:55 +0000 UTC]

Still takes some time with redshift Last week my gf and me had some nice vacation on the island Sylt. If you ignore the snobs, and if you ignore that everything is biased towards tourism and not really traditional there, it's actually a nice island Have some nice panorama skies to show later.

I am currently doing some real life stuff and a small realtime terrain ray tracer for kicks and training, and to get familiar with SSE techniques
