Hi there, looks like I found a right place to be curious of the arts of smithy. *Watched*

I love weapon making. I'd like to start but I don't have enough space for a forge. Love your work

Thanks!
Well, I don't know how much space are you thinking about you need, but I can tell you that when I started, I only had about 4 square meters in total, in the basement. I did pretty much everything by hand back then, didn't have any powertools at all. Only a small coal forge (home made from scrap metal of course), a piece of rail road track for an anvil on a stump and a bench with a small wise.
Had this setup for about 4 years, till I could move and expand.
Anyway, my advise is, if you would really like to try it, jump into it and do it! Life is too short for regrets Β

Yeah, starting with little forces you to be creative. And that, my friend, is the most important feat of a smith!

You're pretty cool. Thanks a heep for the advice. Hopefully I can make a good enough blade. I'm really into swords, pollarms, knives/daggers, anything weaponry, even if I am a girl.

Hallo! The TinkerΒ΄s Folder has arrived and I love it!
The blade is beautiful to behold and your unique locking mechanism radiates rugged, archaic functionality. The knife arrests securely in open AND closed position (only very few folders do that), opening and closing is smooth and easy. Overall appearance and feeling is strong and stable.
Thank you, bladesmith. Your skill is highly appreciated. May Hephaistos smile benevolently upon your business!

Sir what you create is far from "just a knife" ...
I cant decide if this is art or metal porn but its beautiful.
I can barely cut a straight line with a scissor and you create something lile that ... I envy you.
Keep up the great work

Thanks a lot for the nice words! I really appreciate it.
Well, it only means that I am probably spending way too much time in front of the anvil.
But anyway, you have no reason to envy me, or anyone else for that reason. I really suck in pretty much anything else besides bashing iron and as the late dr. Hawking once said, everyone can succeed in something, the hard part is to find that area, or something like this

Computers are like magic to me. Have no idea how they do their stuff
Thanks for the offer

Well Im good with the basics and can program in most languages from machine code to more complex stuff like python, c and java but coding something like an operating system with millions of lines of code is even for me like magic ...
On the other hand: making something like your knifes out of some stones filled with ore is far from my capabilities.
Everyone does their magic

Hey, i was wondering if you could tell if a sword is hand forged or machine made.
π: 0 β©: 1
hellize In reply to ellthalion [2017-10-07 11:06:09 +0000 UTC]
Depends on who makes it. Mines are hand forged!

ellthalion In reply to hellize [2017-10-08 01:12:45 +0000 UTC]
Lol cool! Is there any way to tell if you don't know?

hellize In reply to ellthalion [2017-10-08 06:04:34 +0000 UTC]
No, not really. If it is nicely made, you need a lab to that.

One more question, can pattern welded blades be machine made?
π: 0 β©: 1
hellize In reply to ellthalion [2017-10-08 16:17:23 +0000 UTC]
Probably yes. Never heard of such thing thou, but man is a clever species and can come up with all sorts of contraptions. I would be greatly surprised and disappointed if such a machine would be impossible to make.
