As a veteran of cosplay, if I was to cosplay, what would you recommend as a first timer? Any hints or tips?

Well, it depends entirely on your favourite anime: decide on the series you like most, choose your favourite character, research as many different pictures with as many different angles as possible and from there choose your materials.
Give Chelsea a message if you want some advice on materials.

The cosplay I had in mind was Dr McNinja, or possibly one of his clone.
As I don't really read anime, but webcomics on the other hand is different
Would like to go as Zee Captain but I think that would be too much work for a noob

Dr McNinja eh? Not too complicated, but not a simple costume either. That should present just the right amount of challenge.
And yes, I reade more webcomics these days than anime/manga. Been plannin a Richard the Warlock costume from Looking For Group, but I've hit a snag. XD

Well, my first costume is Alucard from Hellsing which I'll probably wear on the Sunday. And the 2nd costume is Richard the Warlock, one of my favourite characters from a webcomic called 'Looking For Group'.

I certainly look forward to seeing you there! I'll be out the front of the Excel about midday both days: I'll be the ridiculously tall guy dressed as Alucard. Or look for a guy with a white face, yellow eyes and black/blue robes...that'll be me too. XD
