Sorry for the late reply the chatbox doesn't flag new comments to my in my message activity.

For photoing my guns I currently use a canon 500D with either a canon 50mm prime fixed lens or the 18-55mm kit-lens and usually a tripod.

The best bit of advice I can give is to not take a photo looking straight down onto your gun and instead position your camera low down with the gun propped to add a bit of depth to the shot, also darker backdrops help separate the gun from the background.
