the best way to paint something big, is to follow these few steps that I do.

1. create some colour for the background not the sky colour, the colour of the space everything will sit in.

2. paint your focal point sillouhette. DO NOT USE BLACK use a darker version of your background colour.

3. add in some sillohets of background objects with a slightly darker colour than the background one but lighter than the focal point.

4. speed paint in the coloures of your focal point be sure to make the parts hit by the light to have the brightest colours. repeat for the background with softer strokes.

5. add in some features to fill out blank spaces e.g. planes, clouds, bugs, birds dont go ott.

6. hit that actual pixels button on the zoom tool and paint in all those epic details while listening to [link] or some other epicly inspirational music lol

after all this sign it and you'll be done submit to DA and BE PROUD

I only understood about half of that

What program would this be in? And by 'paint', what do you mean?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge
I'm a newb to 3D modelling.

lol sorry I though you was asking about 2D that was all photoshop speak and general painting with a graphics tablet xD as for 3D its an incredibly long process, Though lately Ive been modelling in zBrush and ending in 3DSMax. You should look into 3DSmax, Maya or blender for 3D depending on what you really want.

they all do reletively the same thing, however if you want compatablity with formats then Max is the way, if you want high poly counts then Maya and if you just wanna give it a bash for free get blender. we have loads of tutorials at #The3DArtistClub as well so if you need help ask one of our helpers there

Well, I have C4D and I've been using that for a while. I've tried 3DS but it just wasn't for me.

I understand the first message now, I'm more of a photoshop man, and I just bought a tablet yesterday. I thought you where on about 3D, so I was a little confused

Valexi In reply to iEclipseX [2010-07-24 22:29:46 +0000 UTC]

well, I've just had a lot of practice with Photoshop, I suppose.
I'm running off CS3.
It's a mixture of layer blending and good brushes = p

iEclipseX In reply to Valexi [2010-07-24 22:30:46 +0000 UTC]

Nice. All free hand I assume?
Did you make the Bulbasaur aswell?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Valexi In reply to iEclipseX [2010-07-24 22:33:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm using a Wacom tablet for drawing.
I did indeed draw the Bulbasaur
I plan to draw out all of the first gen Pokemon in the same fashion as well. It'll be a slow process, but I'll get it done eventually.

I'm getting a tablet myself soon. What kind of tablet do you have?

Valexi In reply to iEclipseX [2010-07-24 22:39:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.
I have a Wacom Intuos3 4 x 6.
It works excellent and it's lasted me a long time.
It's a tiny bit pricey (around 230 dollars), but I got it for Christmas :E

I'm investing in something slightly lower end
I'm just in desperate need of one ASAP so I can only afford a Bamboo, but I'll upgrade in the future.

Valexi In reply to iEclipseX [2010-07-24 22:43:29 +0000 UTC]

That's understandable.
I've heard good things about the Bamboo, so you're not that bad off.
