It's not so difficult to get the result I get with my paintings. I use my watercolors more like paint, I paint on normal paper and use cheap watercolors.
When I paint, I use less water. So the result on paper looks more like paint then watercolors.

I made a tutorial a while ago, but it's in Dutch, I never made an English version, but if you look closely to the paint, you can see the name's of the colors in English.
I added a lot of photo's back then so you can see what I do in the steps. You don't really need a whole translation.
