Hey, Amy. Click on the word "messages" right under the DeviantArt logo at the top of your profile (it doesn't matter whether or not it's saying you have any new messages). Scroll down on the right side of your screen and you should see a "Friends" heading about midway down (you're listed there on mine). Right under that is a "Manage Friends" button. That will let you add someone, if you know their username (in my case, "ianmcd").
