Re: US Exodus... I also often feel ambivalent about living in the USA. It seems harder and harder to think freely without penalization these days, at least in the south (I've lived in Alabama and Georgia 95% of my life) it seems true, since so many conservatives emboldened by Republican success have been pushing for homogenezation. There are good things about the US and some wonderful places... but I have to mitigate living here with escape to other countries, so I sympathize! It's about time for me to leave again, I'm getting the wanderlust..

It would be nice to go to Germany, and to speak German... I went to Austria for a week once and didn't speak more than 5 words of German. I decided that would be the LAST time I went to a foreign country without some basic understanding of the language.

Re:Re: US Exodus...i know what you mean about the south, about 1/2 my family lives in georgia, and i know i would never survive there from what i hear. i have no qualms with the land, there are some places of great beauty here...its just sad that they will most likely not stay that way for long due to our destructive nature.
i wish i could travel more, perhaps that would make me feel a bit better, but until i finish my schooling, the extensive travelling i would like to do is out of the question. sometimes i wish i could just pack my bags and hit the road...travel the rest of my life. if these were different, older times, i'm sure i would have been a gypsy..or a minstrel...or some sort of wandering vagabond...lol!
it's always good to be a bit familiar with a countries native language when travelling there...i plan on brushing up more and more on my german, until i am hopefully close to fluent...i have strong blood-ties to that country, and i really feel drawn there.

my family is of recent German decent, but I was born here in the USA...
my Grandmother spoke fluent German, my Mother speaks some, and I am trying to retain that, and teach myself it further... ich spreche ein bißchen Deutsch, aber mein Grammatik ist nicht so gut ;) (Wink)
the reason i say "unfortunately" is because i really dislike it here in the USA and would rather not be here...eventually I would actually like to live in Germany! Although I have never actually been there, I enjoy alot of German music, art and culture, and really long to see where my family came from...I actually plan on visiting with a friend of mine in the near future...

oooh yay! my first stalk...erm...i mean, watcher! just uploaded something i am currently working on... will probably dig through my stuff and upload more tommorrow... heheh mebbe some of those lurvely palette knife paintings i had to do for garrity's class that i am probably going to have lead poisoning from... ah, the life of the artist!
