Some tips:
The paper is very important and it will be difficult to find good ones for you. If it sucks too much the colours will not be bright and shiny for the colour goes too deep into it and will not stand on the surface. So you ever have to look for good and different papers good ones are costly. A drop of water has to stand on it while drying and not to be sucked in.
Use brushes with long haired tips special for the thin and tiny numbers the longer the tip the more colour you can fill "into the brush" the longer can be the stroke. Thin lines can also made by drawing-feathers some colours are working good with a feather.
Try out to give pure water onto the paper and add the colour later that will give playful results. Keep the highlights dry!!!
Try out different qualities of colour, look for very light resistant colours or they get bleached out by the sun.

"Ein Aquarell" as we call a watercolour-painting has to be planned and designed well, that means all you do has a function, as a concept of design is: FFF"form follows function". With a lot of other media like oil or acrylic you have more chances to correct your image later. There are mostly no chances to correct an aquarell, no way to remove all the colour, you can wash it out but it will not be white again. If you work with opaque white it gets more and more the character of a gouache-painting. "Less is more" is a good concept for working with watercolours. It is better to do a work several times and reduce the work to a minimum than to paint more and more on one painting for hours and hours.
Explore the material, papers, colours, water, (pencil). Splashing, dropping, mixing on paper, wet on wet, wet on dry, colour into pure water, water onto dry colour,how to put the colour onto the paper,how to wash it out. Try out the factor time and dryness of the paper.Sponges, clothes, different brushes, drawing-feathers. For a mixed illustration try out to combine with inks colour-pencils (water-solvent and non-solvent) oil-pastel. A white non-water-solvent pencil is helpful to protect parts of the paper that will stay white!!!
