thank yaw!!!!!!
I know, I'm terrible! I've been storyboarding a pretty ambitious animation concept!
But I can't post any of that until it's finished, but it'll take me months! if not a year!
also plans in the works for a website...
not to mention several other minor animations...
I have to stop procrastinating!
what are you working on!?!?!
π: 0 β©: 1
sixunderwater In reply to jamesalexandermartin [2010-07-26 16:34:57 +0000 UTC]
wow. you've got things in the works?....you're ahead of me!!! haha I've got a couple little things I'm finally working on but I don't really feel up to posting them. One's a collage.. one's an altered book of sorts, more like a journal... but I've got lots of plans!... Just gotta... start them.... !!
Good luck with the animation, can you post little parts of it, like sneak peaks? maybe that'll keep you at a good pace? I'm excited to see what you're working on though, whenever it comes along
π: 0 β©: 1
jamesalexandermartin In reply to sixunderwater [2010-08-23 14:59:53 +0000 UTC]
and I even had time for something on the side!!!!
or maybe it's just more procrastination....
I like the idea of sneak peaks, but at the same time I don't want NOONE SEEING IT TILL IT'S DONE H'OK?!?!?!
h'ok.
but I could email you bits and pieces for your eyes only, we could bounce ideas offof each other for our respective projects, you know, get a different perspective and whatnot

sixunderwater In reply to jamesalexandermartin [2010-09-07 20:14:52 +0000 UTC]
hey that's not a bad idea! it'd take a lot of the pressure off i bet
you know, I like the idea of sneak peaks for other people, but as you can see I never do it myself haha! I've been super unmotivated lately, but as of today I'm working on something just for fun and who knows maybe I'll feel like posting it sometime.. But yeah I'd definitely be excited to bounce ideas back and forth! email me with some goodies anytime- sixunderwater@gmail.com
your most recent post looks awesome by the way! nice work. I've always been intimidated by digital drawing. keep it up and mail me some stuff!!

ola! a fellow deviant! she said she was giving you my profile URL, she didn't say you had one.
nice to meet you too!
so i hear you're the person to talk to about photoshop animation?
π: 0 β©: 1
jordanoth In reply to jamesalexandermartin [2010-02-10 08:03:38 +0000 UTC]
to be honest, flash is the absolute way to go to create world class 2d animation, as you have a greater control over assets and motion tweens etc. but from what she said it sounded like you wanted more pixel oriented graphics, as opposed to vector,
After sarah and i had that conversation i had a think about your dillema and i seem to remember there was a dinky software that you can probably still chase down called 'moho' that allowed you to attach drawing assets (like say "forearm","hand" and "fingers_clenched" drawings) to animatable bones in the scene and it had fully controllable cameras etc to allow for pans and other cool stuff.
I mentioned photoshop as a possible option as CS3 (which I'm using at work) has individual frame painting options, a friend of mine animated a five minute film painting frame by frame in photoshop, but i got the impression that he hated the experience..
anyhow, good luck!

ooookkk, so i figured it out, you have to make a layer for every scene you want in your movie!!!!
you say he made a 5 min animation??? thats like 7000 layers if he was at 24 fps!! i suppose it's not that different from frame to frame animation, but when we're talking about layering... it just seems huge, i mean a 50 frame artwork seems excessive to me. files must be huge.

jordanoth In reply to jamesalexandermartin [2010-02-10 11:27:21 +0000 UTC]
nah not separate layers,
look i think i may have led you on a goosechase, there are surely flipbook apps out there, ill see if i can find a lead.

jamesalexandermartin In reply to jordanoth [2010-02-11 08:54:15 +0000 UTC]
nah, i figured it all out in photoshop, but thanks for the help!

jamesalexandermartin In reply to jordanoth [2010-02-10 08:43:50 +0000 UTC]
yeah, i've been playing with flash for ages, but I really like sketching, and you can't do that with vector and photoshop doesn't seem to have the right interface i'm looking for, but then i think it's entirely possible it's because I don't really know how to do it properly. really I'm looking for an animation program that works like a flip book, just something that i can draw an animation into frame by frame, maybe with an onion skin and your usual FPS basics and hopefully tablet integration, but i'll be damned if I can find anything.
Anyway, thanks for the imput, I'll give moho a go!
