No, if you don't color it, how are you supposed to get better?
Be daring! Explore different brushes in photoshop to see the effects they give.
For my coloring, I use three different brushes to get the effect I want (and I'm considering adding a fourth).
I'll look at it. Maybe I can offer critique? I dunno. 8D;

Yeah I know, I get really impatient though when im near finishing a piece, thats my biggest problem that I need to work on. It's more the black lines on my pieces of work, I want them to be more bold and dark, but when I scan the image in its never dark enough even though I try increasing the contrast. And I dont want to go over the whole thing again in photoshop because then it doesnt really count as hand drawn =/ although I guess thats not really a bad thing.

Also I have been using GIMP, used it for my 3rd piece and I'm trying to get used to it, it's quite difficult to use. I would use my photoshop elements but it doesnt have a pen tool which I really really need.

Hmmm…well, what I do for all my lineart is ink using special inking pens.
Then when I scan them, I use paintbucket in photoshop to darken/thicken the lines.
IMO it still counts as hand-drawn because…well, you drew it.
With your hand.
But yeah, patience is key. The more work you put into something, the better the results.

Pen tool? What does the pen tool do?

Pen tool means you can create selections with curves, its how I do the shading, first I add the base colour, then I add the darkened *shade* colour. If you look at the shading for my 1st and 2nd piece, I used the paint brush tool, and for my 3rd I used the pen tool in GIMP, you can see the difference in shape of shaded areas, the ones i did with paint brush ( [link] [link] ) are a bit wonky/jagged, the one with pen tool ( [link] ) is really nice smooth curves and more accurate.

Oh! Another thing to help with patience:
I like to listen to music while I draw/color. It really makes the work less tedious if I'm enjoying myself.

Well, ya know, there's no rule saying you can't use both Photoshop AND GIMP to shade things.
With some of Photoshop's softer brushes, that shakiness isn't even noticeable.
But I guess how you color/shade things is up to you.
