“We’ve been two sides of the same coin, in a lot of ways, as young Draco and young Harry. But it’s been great fun to develop this weird relationship, which we explore in these last two films. One minute they’re trying to take each other’s heads off and the next, trying to help each other out. Bizarre.”
- Tom Felton

Interviewer: So when you go down to the cricket ground you must be like a kid in a sweet shop meeting them all (the cricket players)
Tom: It is a bit like that. Especially with Dan. Obviously they are more attracted to us as a couple, so…
-Everyone laughs.-
Interviewer: Harry and Draco, the rumors are starting.
Tom: Wait, that came across wrong, can we do that again?
Interviewer: We’re live, unfortunately.
Tom: It’s live?! Oh, lordy…

Tom: Have you been getting my messages?

Daniel: Yes… I don’t want to admit it, but your YouTube videos are a bit irresistible.

Tom: So may we change our Facebook from “It’s Complicated” back to “Relationship”?

Daniel: Shut up and kiss me

Tom Felton: “It’s good to be the villain. I think every actor likes to play a character that is miles away from yourself. But in reality, Daniel Radcliffe and I are very convergent. We share the love for cricket. Even if we try to murder each other with spells, we are brothers together in Daniel’s dressing room next to watch cricket matches on TV. We sometimes play cricket, but the film company is quite concerned that Daniel gets a ball in his face. So, the ball is not hit in his direction.“

Q: He does take a real violent action early on while on the train.
Tom Felton: Yeah, that was nice. I’ve been waiting years to do that. It was very good fun to do that and it’s very nice to have the upper hand even if it was only momentarily. It did feel good and it was very enjoyable. I think that goes back to his idea of being the chosen one. He likes the idea of putting one up on the actual chosen one. So that was a proud moment for Draco, obviously.

Q: Your character is constantly at odds with Harry. So what is your real interaction like with Daniel [Radcliffe]?
Tom Felton: Young Daniel. Very well. We’ve obviously known each other now for many years. It’s quite strange because as much as we’ve grown up together we also haven’t because we have sort of four or five months in between films and every time we come back we’re both slightly more mature and slightly into different things and so forth. It’s useful that we’re both great cricket appreciators. We can wind away the hours talking about cricket which I’m sure doesn’t interest you at all, but that’s generally the topic of conversation between the two of us and obviously we’re both keen on films and various other bits and music as well. I’m not sure that we’re both into the same music, but we’re both very passionate about music. So we have enough in common to remain a healthy friendship.

Here we go again:

Q: What do you have that you’re looking forward to filming that you’ve not already done?
Tom Felton: Young Daniel and I have a nice battle in the toilets which I’m looking forward to. That sounds a bit dodgy doesn’t it, but I assure you it’s all above board. So that’ll be fun, doing a bit of an action sequence, so to speak, and of course the final scene on the astronomy tower. I’m very much looking forward to that. I’ve read the scene so many times that I’ve got it in my head about how it looks. So I’m actually excited about what’s going to be produced.

Q: Draco goes back and forth a lot in that book. Can you talk about that?
Tom Felton: Yeah, it’s a bit of a funny one. That bit in the middle I was thinking, “What’s going on? Is there something sort of boiling up inside?” Then at the end he goes back to his old ways of, “I’m not going to let you do what you want to do, Harry.” I’m glad that there was that final bit and that we had a chance to get it out. I thought there was a really nice bit towards the end, the last few words in the book about Harry seeing his child off onto the train and seeing Draco putting his child on the same train. I thought that would be a brilliant final shot at the end of it all.

Q: I was hoping in the seventh book he might do something good. I suppose that saving Harry would be too much.
Tom Felton: Well, Harry saves him, doesn’t he, twice. So I thought there was going to be a big, “Thanks for everything. I’m sorry for being a jerk for eight years or whatever.”

Q: Do you think that Harry and Draco can ever be friends?

Tom Felton: Hopefully not, it’ll ruin my part! No definitely not, I couldn’t see it happening.

Daniel Radliffe: “You know, now I feel sort of obliged to come out with something sort of profound and philosophical. I think possibly, also, what Tom is alluding to is the fact that I’ve got…I think I’ve got a work ethic. Which also, to the effect, Tom has, and a lot of us have as well.”

Daniel Radcliffe: “One of the sequences, on this last film, was with Tom Felton as Malfoy in the bathroom. Me and Tom have always liked each other but we actually started getting on really, really well in the last film, so that will be one of the binding memories.”

Tom Felton: "Dan's pretty competitive when it comes to sports."
The 22-year-old, who's currently filming the first part of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows with Daniel, also said that there was pressure on the Harry Potter actors to behave like positive role models for young people.
Tom Felton: "I think especially for Daniel more than anyone really, and it doesn't make it easier when people are publishing articles that aren't true," he said.
Tom added: "It's not easy, but no one can do it better than Daniel. Obviously, I feel for the guy, and I know he's got a very strong head on him and I know that he'll sail through this one easily. And I think he's come to terms with the fact that not always the press are on his side."
Tom Felton: “I rесkοn іt’s hοnеѕt tο ѕау wе wеrе hοnеѕtlу horrific actors, I mean, Daniel аnd I, wе cringe, I mean…wе саn’t watch those earlier ones."

There’s bit in Deathly Hallows where Harry is standing at Dobby’s grave and has just put a stone where they buried Dobby

image

and Harry goes to engrave the stone and finds 2 wands in his pocket, one of who’s is Draco. And he chooses to use Draco’s wand because it feels warmer in his hand.

Tom Felton: “Daniel is the nicest guy in the world, he is so down to earth and would rather buy a new book than a new car. We keep telling him to spend, spend, spend but he’s not interested!”
Tom Felton: “Daniel is someone I look up to massively, even though he’s two years younger than me. He treats the job serious, exceptionally so, and takes nothing for granted. He doesn’t think, ‘All right, I booked the first film, I’m going to bugger off to Tahiti for a month.’ He’s there, working during the breaks between films, doing acting classes, speech classes, whether it’s song and dance or whatever the next challenge. He’s always working to perfect his craft. At the same time, he has an exceptionally laid-back attitude on the set. … He remembers everybody’s name perfectly the first time he meets them. I’m somewhat the second or third time.”
Then, with a wink, the pride of Slytherin added: “He’d be a good salesman. He’s been talking about that for a few years, I’ve been putting him off that. I think he should stick with acting.”
Tom Felton: “Daniel is very witty, he’s the young Stephen Fry. He always has a book in hand and is full of anecdotes.
“He can do whatever he wants – he is so driven. When he is not filming he is in acting and voice classes. He loved doing Broadway and showed a lot of people he wants to take his acting career seriously.
“Daniel is a good friend of mine. He is very inspiring to me.”
AB: Can you tell us what your favorite scene was to shoot, and why?
TF: "Sure! One of my favorite scenes to shoot was some of the stuff in the Malfoy manor when Harry gets captured by the Death Eaters. That was fantastic because we had so many evil people in one room at one time. It was a load of fun to shoot that. And Harry, of course, had his stinging jinx, so his face wasn’t exactly in the best of shape
