fluorescent lights cut, high pitched hum
pools of ammonia on white linoleum tiles,
vaporize filling lungs, eyes watery and dumb

hinges on a metal swingset creak
a plague of rust takes over the iron
she swings like a crooked pendulum
energy wasted on zig zag rotation

up and down the swing it rocked
then up she looked and suddenly stopped
her eyes grew warm but were fast to turn cold
she sat and stared
bold
clear without fear
but alert from hurt

her vision, images visit from the past she witnessed
she closes her eyes and tries to insist
that what lies behind her eyes never existed

A devised a plan
at hand to linger and
