haha! thanks evarcha! ... oh well even though your not evarcha.... your stil evarcha to me
Sorry what happend? you just kind of disapeared, did someone hack your account?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PixelExplorer In reply to kacktustoo [2011-05-04 13:59:55 +0000 UTC]

Haha, no problem, I still love and use the name Evarcha wherever I can.

no, I was facing a self-made artistic crises, my digital work wasn't as good as my traditional work and I felt one was damaging the quality of the other, so I made a choice to shut down my original account.

Sounds mad right? I was trying to make a go of my digital and traditional at the same time, and was making things feel 'muddy'.

So I needed a fresh start, I have remade my traditional website:
www.wayneashworthart.co.uk

and I am going to continue producing digi whenever I can because i love it.

Great to hear from you Kacktustoo.

I love both your mediums, most people do! don't worry, and you've helped and inspired me for years, so i can't thank you enough for that, but your traditional work in particular is just azazing and i'm not using that lightly, it's apsolutely brilliant!
You could make 2 different accounts and compare which works people enjoy more? digital or traditional? personally i enjoy traditional over digital any day, the sheer level of skill to do it id astonishing when compared to artists working on photoshop etc and i'd love to see more if you ever wanted to
Probably even buy a commision xD

PixelExplorer In reply to kacktustoo [2011-05-05 17:13:06 +0000 UTC]

Well, I have to admit, when i was away from da there were certain artists I missed seeing work from, and you were one of them.
I like the idea of starting up another account for my traditional work, I may even do this, thats a great idea.
I'd love for you to own a piece of my work someday, who knows eh? I know once I get my printer back working i could run you a print off and post it down to you maybe? (at no cost, I enjoy giving away prints to people when they like my work)

Lyguani In reply to kacktustoo [2011-03-21 19:38:47 +0000 UTC]

haha, okay I'm not really sure how you're going to help but... My stuff looks too cartoonish, if you get my meaning. Do you know of any tips you could give me to sharpen it up with more detail or something? Like making a piece of metal look like metal you have to lace it with multiple variations of color. Or so I assume. So I guess I"m looking for tips or advice, anything really, haha. Thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kacktustoo In reply to Lyguani [2011-03-21 21:59:50 +0000 UTC]

haha! no problem

It can involve every aspect, colour, perspective, lighting, textures, i'm obviously not the best to be asking lol but i can give you an idea (:

Simple methods like a hard brush or a hard line tool can make a much bigger difference than you think, for example when it comes to objects, never design it using a soft brush unless to intend it to be, it'll automatically look blurred. The initial steps i find should always be like this depending on your style of painting, it allows better controll, even moving into the later stages when you start to add colour, soft brushes are mainly designed for other things like lighting, shadows, smoke etc, even highlights with a softbrush can ruin the realsim of a painting if it's not done right, but that's just me, remember it's always good to experiment. ;D

When it comes to things like textures, something i've learnt is never, ever use textures until the final stages, then work into them, use textures relevent to the area, if it's metal use metal, but will it be shiny? rusty? painted? it'll make it look realistic and defined, if you overlay textures throughout you'll get something similar to my Halo reach painting, a style i really hate xD

Another good trick phoenix-06 tought me is to, merge copy your work, go to "Filter", then "Other" then select "highpass" keep the level low like 1 or something and it'll add slightly sharper edges to your work (:

Like i said the hard line tool, you use to select object is a brilliant feature, basically outline the edges then paint in a colour into the selected regions it'll give you that sharp look.

Hmm lets think... ooh remember to map out the areas your working, just sketch them out, keep it clean sharp lines for the first stages especially it basically sets the scene up so you know what what, and i find layers are a mans best friend, i make looooads of mistakes and by basically removing the layers i don't want it's easier than working into them again because you've done too much on one layer, then as you get better your able to use less layers, something for noobies like us

Anything else you want to know, that i've missed just ask

Lyguani In reply to kacktustoo [2011-03-22 00:43:26 +0000 UTC]

This is true but I felt you would be more in tune with the questions I"m asking because you kind of just went through them? haha

DO you change the opacity with your brush at all , for example when you drew Soldier?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Lyguani In reply to kacktustoo [2011-03-21 23:26:52 +0000 UTC]

well I figured you'd be better to ask cause your still figuring it out, haha. Shoot you drew/painted Soldier your good.

When you paint do you change the opacity of your brush at all? Like when drawing your Soldier guy or do you work in mostly full 100% opacity?

I use many layers, haha that's for sure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kacktustoo In reply to Lyguani [2011-03-22 09:55:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah never be affraid to change the opacity ;D
It's such a varied effect basically you change opacity when you feel the need to, but the base layer of paint is usually good for a lower opacity, when you sketch out the object then paint in some colours it's sometimes good to lower the opacity so it comes together and so you can basically see the lines lol, but yeah it's such a brilliant tool, use it whenever you feel you need to, lighting, shadows, highlights, base layers etc

Dude, i love what you did there for that Duel Enemy!
One of my bands and i are looking for artwork ourselves, and you seem like the perfect artist.
Do you have spare time on your hands?

sadly i have to say i can't at the moment, i'm just far too busy to even do any paintings in any time lol, but if i get the time i'll see what i can do, ahh there's bound to be waaaay better artists out there than me
You can still message me what genre of band you are? what your looking for? etc so if i do get a chance i can work on it asap (:

ps. haha! Thanks mate

Uhm, we're a mixture between Punk and Metal at the moment, but we may just as well change our style a bit. And kinda what you did for Duel Enemy, artwork for an EP/Demo.
Basically, our signature is a skull/mask with one eye-socket with a cross in it, and one with a heart. Our idea was to like, make them glow within the sockets to make them stand out from the rest of the picture. And then behind the skull 'Polluted Silence'.
It would be EPIC if you could do this for us, cause you seem like the perfect artist for this kind of cover art.

like so btw:

-two skulls on each side (one with glowing cross eye, one with heart)
-human skull base (you could do whatever you see fit if you got time)
-Polluted Silence in the middle of them.
-Dark background like Duel Enemy's.
(optional idea)
- tribal shit around skulls
-air glow out of the skulls mouths. (like their breathing)

*sorry for the incredibly lame muro btw*
