Thanks for the watch! You are absolutely stunning - I liked the set you had on CD but didn't realize how much more you had already done. And I was certainly amused to see in your blog that you're a magic player as well! I saw you were getting burned out on Standard earlier this year, are you back in with Origins, or do you play other formats? I've got a rambunctious commander group that lets me exercise my creative muscles quite a bit, once they roped me in a couple years ago it's been more fun than any previous format in my experience....

I did get back in with Origins, starting with mono red and now I've got Mardu control that morphs into Mardu Aggro post sideboard. Haven't tested it yet, but it seems fun and I think it'll do well in the local meta so long as I can get the land base to work smoothly.
I do have a Vela commander deck, but I typically stick to Standard because (a) that's just about all my local game store caters to and (b) it's a big part of competitive play in general. I am generally a Limited fiend, however. I love drafts and sealed when I can afford them. Deckbuilding is one of my favorite components, and doing it as part of the event has this extra little thrill for me. I will eventually get back into playing Modern and Legacy (and I get easily throw a deck together, or pilot someone else's if the need arises), but I need to practice my Standard game to get better within the competitive scene.

Cool...good luck, of course, with your Mardu build. I've been really enamored of a rogue deck I whipped up for FNM a couple weeks ago after being challenged by one of my group to build a deck around Mage-Ring Responder....blue & green with lots of ramp & untap effects to help the Responders once they're in play.....and a bunch of savage punch + epic confrontation so I can PUNCH PEOPLE WITH ROBOTS. Depending on what reference people prefer I'll describe it as a Real Steel or Pacific Rim theme deck. It's not great but it's not terrible and it's fun as hell to play, and I got everyone's attention when I first showed up with it.
It's weird, when I was first playing at a much younger age, I was very cutthroat and cared more about playing the most efficient deck possible, now I just want to play something fun and if it does alright, that's just an added bonus.
A few of the drawings I posted on here so far are actually based on characters and events from an old MTG-based role-playing forum I used to be a part of. The game's always been a creative inspiration, artistically & otherwise, ever since I remember first flipping through my first starter deck in awe of all these little pieces of unique art in my hand

Fun should always be a priority, whether a person plays casually or competitively. If you're not enjoying the game, then there's really no point. Although I'm more competitive now than I used to be, I don't think I could ever be particularly cutthroat. I enjoy seeking greater challenges, but the end result doesn't matter too much so long as the battle was epic.
Oh that's so cool! I've thrown the idea around of making a MtG based RPG forum. It's such a perfect setting.

The forum was a blast. People came in with an odd mix of fantasy backgrounds, MTG being the common thread....we wove elements of Magic's story into things (my character had spent time in Phyrexia and was a pawn of Yawgmoth before shaking it off and traveling the multiverse), tired to incorporate existing spell names into things, some people just flat-out used names for magic & other fantasy properties (i.e. we had someone that just went by Serra, someone that went by Elrohir, a minor LotR character), and we just sort of came up with collaborative stories. I loved illustrating characters & events and put out a little "photo booth" thread where I invited people to write up a character description, that I would then try to draw and scan quickly so they'd have something visual to represent themselves.
I miss having all the time in the world to draw
I just got the early shift tomorrow so I'm totally bringing Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots to FNM tomororw
