I haven't logged on in ages, and that's something I really should change, isn't it?

But I have been doing alright lately, trying to finish this semester in a not-catastrophic way, and looking for a summer job. I'm getting to grips with animating and writing, and hoping I can get some experience before next year starts.

That's awesome, best of luck with the job and the art stuff! I've been doing okay, finished high school last summer and been sitting on my ass for the last year. I've made some cash though, from tutoring a bunch of kids during the afternoon, so I'm not that useless.

I should, now that some time has passed and it feels like there's been some improvement in my art. It's been such a whirlwind of new techniques and things to try. And I've sucked at a lot of them, but that hasn't stopped me yet.

You've graduated! That's great! Is there anything you'd like to pursue in college or university? And another thing, how's the art been? I mean it's great, I looked at some of it, but how's it been feeling?
And believe me, you're far from useless if you've even managed to deal with the kids. It's an extremely exhausting job to do. I used to work with kids one summer and  it was death. So, hats off!

I'd like to study art, you know, illustration and/or animation, but my life's on standby. I don't really know where to bang my head.
Thank you very much! I'm pretty confident about where my art is heading right now, I've been trying to leave concepts aside for a while and focus on the values and technical part of my drawings. Also, I'm having lots of fun with digital media. Still love traditional art though.

Well, that's true. They're the bane of my existence, but thankfully there are only two days left before school ends and I get my freedom back.

Oh dear, please don't have expectations of me. I'm sure to fail!
I've been trying some more stylized drawings, because woo!  - it turns out animation is hard. Who'd've thunk it? So I'm trying to compensate tougher movements with simpler drawings and so on.

I don't know about illustration, but animation is the coolest thing ever, just sayin'. Although it takes a lot of work, the end result is amazing - you've created movement! Amaze! Illustration is also great, because there you can really give it your absolute all in the details and the visual feel and aesthetics, and it's just.... art's wonderful. I hope you get the chance to study it, because it's a miracle, when it works.

And as a lil note -it will pass, everything passes, and sometimes you don't really feel the change. You see the result, which is still a gift, especially if you've moved on from a dark place.

The technical side of things is very important! It's so cool that you've focused on it, cause then you can draw the things that pop into your head. A rare luxury for many.
Digital media is my death. I've been fighting with a tablet - gladiator-style, last man standing fights. I've got zero coordination, and about as much patience. Keep rocking the digital art!

Well, kids. They have that double-edged feel to them. And they grow up like... faster than we grow old. OR that's what I'd like to think.

I made a three second animation one time, on the most rudimental programs on my laptop: Moviemaker and Paint. I had lots of fun, though it took more than I thought. As for illustration, it's always been one of my favorite art representations.

Hmm. The thing is, there's a big chance I won't be living in Italy for long, my parents are thinking of sending me to the UK to study and/or work from this fall. Which would be awesome, but the problem is that the Brits don't accept applications after March, so it would be too late for me this year. I'd have to wait another year to get the possibility to start studying. :/ So I don't know what to do.

Oh, man. Sounds rougher than I hope it is!

Yeah, they're weird and scary. And they make lots of noise.

I can send you links to some short animations I did for a marathon this February, if you'd like. They're not masterpieces, but it was great fun making them. 

You can make animation with literally everything - and it's tremendous fun, and about as much work. The truth is that no matter how tiring it can be, I'd never swap it for anything. 
Illustration is beautiful, I can undertsand why you love it. 

That's quite a big change in life, isn't it? Moving to live to another place. There are some great art universities in Britain, but I'm not familiar with their policy. March is pretty soon to stop accepting applications, but I don't know, it depends on so many things. 
Time is a bitch in the sense that it just leaves all the time. Half of this year has passed already, though it's a welcome change from 2016 for me. So the other half will pass just as quickly. Maybe a part-time job till the end of the year? But that will eat up time and energy that could be spent towards preparing for studying. 
It's a real mess, life. 
I've been living on my own for a year and nine months now, but my family is still close, and I'm in the same country. It's never easy to adjust, but once you do, it's great - you see the everyday life of an entirely new place, and that however bleak, can enrich you immensely.

I know right? I am excited about it but scared at the same time. I'd have to work for a whole year, till September 2018, and I might lose the will to study after that. I say this because it is what happened this year too, it was supposed to be a gap year before university but I ended up feeling like a lifeless sack of potatoes.
I hope it goes well, whatever happens. I am glad your experience has been good so far.

These are some of them, and they were lots of fun. And nerves. And beer. 

It's amazing what life can throw at you. Working an entire year can be tiring yes, and it will surely eat up time as well. And gap years are tough, I mean, I have a hard time doing anything when I don't have routine to keep me in check. So,  I don't know, but I wish you with all my heart that you study what you love. 

Also, potatoes are good. Potatoes are life. Especially when you're a skill less cook that would have to live on toast and eggs if there weren't potatoes. 
It's been alright. There's always room for improvement.

I'm looking forward to participating again next year. One of the universities that take part is the Edinburgh College of art, and they have some really amazing animations.
