^_^ Yep. I've been bumming around DA (probably too much), and realized I hadn't seen you (or anyone else) around much. Pretty sad that I rely on this as a means of communication Ah well, I hope you're having a good beginning of the year!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyjazz In reply to Ranna [2007-01-18 21:33:26 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I'm afraid life has been too crazy for me to hang out at DA, but I'm getting there. I've finally started writing again and am working on Sonata almost every day, so the only thing I could really do right now on DA is post journal entries about that, which is pretty lame :/ What have you been up to??? We should catch up -- I miss having a writer friend

Anyway, hope all is well for you!

Ranna In reply to ladyjazz [2007-01-21 03:33:08 +0000 UTC]

Nah, it's OK. I hang out on DA way too much That's exciting that you've starting writing again! How goes the sequel? Are you feeling pretty good about, and have their been any takers on Miko?

I haven't been doing all that much, just getting set for the new semester. I'm working on a different writing project, the first draft of which I hope to finish this month (HAHA). After it sits awhile and I give it it's first revision, would you mind if I sent it to you to edit, too? (And I'd be more than happy to do the same - I know the last time you sent me your work I didn't give you very helpful comments AT ALL, but hopefully I've learned since then...).

Otherwise, not much. I'd love to chat, though. I haven't had many write-minded people to talk too Anyways, best of luck on Sonata, I can't wait to read it someday!

ladyjazz In reply to Ranna [2007-01-25 06:21:11 +0000 UTC]

Of COURSE I'd love to read what you're working on! If anything, it'll motivate me to keep working on Sonata. Would you mind if I sent a few chapters sometime? I've lost touch with ~bfp, so I don't really have anyone else who has read Miko and would understand the sequel's storyline. The comments you gave for Miko were helpful, not to mention insightful, so I'd be more than happy to return the favor. I stopped trying to publish Miko a while ago. I know I should try to start up again, but it's hard when I'd rather be writing. Maybe once Sonata really starts to take off I'll have a little more confidence to try and publish.

Anyway, this is getting to be a little long, so I'll leave it at that for now. Note me when you're ready to e-mail me something! I wish you well!

O, yay ^_^ I'll try and work hard on it, then. And please, by all means, I'd love to read whatever you're working on. I think I've learned a little more about the writing/editing process (here's hoping, anyway), so I might be able to give some specific help. My e-mail address is still the same as...wait. Maybe it's not. I can't remember the last time you sent me something Well, it's on the front of my page.

Good luck with everything!

wow, it's an honor to hear from you. After two years of working on a musical, I've finally decided to take a step back from it and go back to my actual writing. I finished a book two years ago -- 102,000 words, and since then have left it buried on my computer. Lately I've been thinking about having it undergo some serious editing, which is why it's so good to hear from you. I think I'm finally ready to handle the criticism (I was still a little fragile at 19 years old when I finished it). I've actually started working on a sequel while at the same time trying to find an agent to get the first book published, but so far there have been no takers. You've often referred members or clubs on DA that edit work, so now I'm considering taking that route before working more on trying to get it published. If you know of any editing groups who would be able to take on an entire novel, while at the same time being able to keep the ideas and stories secure and copywrited, I'd appreciate the advice. I really need to know if this project is worth persuing. It's already taken a lot of work.

Anyway, thanks for the line. I've always respected what you have to say.

MinorKey In reply to ladyjazz [2006-10-11 09:53:09 +0000 UTC]

I'd certainly be careful with a finished work. I'm assuming after leaving it on the shelf for a while you were able to read through it and do some editing for yourself? Leaving something that long is certainly a good means of being able to stand back from it and take a more objective view.

As far as dA is concerned, well putting up a small amount (10%) or so wouldn't harm your chances with a publisher - possibly you might consider putting up the first chapter, depending on whether you feel it gives too many things away that you want to keep secret. I'd think that's unlikely, unless your premise is immediately obvious right from the start, but it's up to you.

If you did put up the first chapter or two, that would get you some feedback on how people receive it - and the first 3 chapters are usually what is read by an interested editor. If they don't sell your work, it won't sell.

Whether or not you choose to put any up (and I'd certainly understand if you didn't), the other option is to approach one or two people you trust (and who you know will be honest about quality, and will provide helpful feedback). Again, what you do if they agree is send them just the first 3 chapters, and ask them for both general feedback and anything specific that would be useful to you.

I'd be happy to look at 3 chapters, and I can always point you in the direction of others, though I can't guarantee they'd have time or inclination. You may also want to get to know Stef (^adrift ) who is our current prose gallery director. I'm sure she'd be interested in your work, and she might have some more ideas...

That's great! How is the editing coming? Fun or painful or both? I'd love to help out (I know I didn't do much the first time you sent Miko my way - sorry!), and I hope everything is going great with it. I'd love to read the sequel when you're done with it!

I'm doing pretty good. I started a new writing project that I'm excited about, and hopefully I'll finish with the basic character outlines next week so the writing can start. Glad to hear from you ^_^ Good luck with everything.

Hey thanks for the comments. I also checked out Dmusic and it just doesn't work for me. As for my personal musical past, I did play some Bass Clarinet back in the days, but have stopped. But I am trying my hand at song writing and the electric guitar. Music and literature just isn't apprecitated enough as it should be. Peace out!

Under your interests it says 'living music'. Was that supposed to be two separate things, or do you prefer living music over dead music?
And if so, what constitutes as dead music?
