Tam's in an interesting situation. She's seeing things and living in ways that Jan could never imagine at that age. It's going to help make her Tam- and not a copy of Jan. She's one of the characters that has surprised me in this project, The other one's Shev. In both cases, they've just fit right in- far better than I thought they would.

Jan's love of good classic country comes from her interest in history- which plays a part in the next book. One of the things I wanted to do with Nova Trek, was learn more about Jan than we ever knew about Jim Kirk. To this day, we don't know what hobbies he had- Jan likes to sketch and paint- we don't know what kind of music he liked or his favorite foods. There were a lot of holes left when TOS ended.
