People seem to misunderstand something. Pedophilia is not synonymous to rape, it is just attraction to kids and does not necessarily mean that a person will do something. By keeping pedophilia at the level of something "too terrible to think about", you won't stop rape, but you will prevent a great deal of it if you actually say that there's nothing wrong with pedophilia itself - only with actions it sometimes leads to.
Imagine a man feels strong desire to murder people, he's a potential serial killer. If he's a bad and immoral person, he will go and kill. If he's a good person with high level of responsibility, there are two ways. If such wishes are a taboo in the society, he'll be too afraid to seek professional help and will try to deal with it by himself, and one day he might just snap. But if everybody understands that it's ok to want to kill as long as you are not going to kill, he'll go to a doctor and ask help, and he won't become a murderer.

Destigmatization of pedophilia won't make rape acceptable, it's not the intention. But it will make thoughts about rape more possible to voice and cope with. Just think, when did prohibiting people to want something actually helped? You can't control what's in people's heads, you can control only their actions, and that's easier to do when they can come to you and feel safe confessing about their wishes.

A lot of pedophiles out there try to suppress their desires, they are good people and need our support. It's not their fault they want something like this, they are not criminals."

you're on the wrong page, as much as i despise pedophillia, i agree that pedophiles should go get help before they actually act upon their desires. i also believe there should be facilities for them to get help before they endanger children. anyone with any mental disorder should go and get help, if they're too afraid because of what others will think of them then that's something they'll have to overcome. i don't want to side with them, i'm on the side of all the potential victims that exist because of them and i want the pedophiles get help.
