although lens are tools, just curious on your opnion on the 35/1.4 for outdoor fashion portraits? I'm considering this lens over the 85/1.2

For outdoors, all you need is a 35/2, unless you're trying to play with DOF on the 1.4. At 1.4, the 1.4L isn't as sharp as it should be, it definitely gives you some advantages in playing with DOF.
However, fashion, especially at 35, doesn't require shallow DOF. And if you were to shoot glamour, you wouldn't use a 35... you'd at least be at 50 or 85.
The 85/1.2 Mark II is an amazing lens, however I still like the 85/1.8 better for it's utility and it's smallness. It focuses faster than the 1.2 Mark I and it does a great job on DOF, especially if you're using a full frame camera. However, I know some people who swear by 85/1.2 II, because of it's ability to pick up a single subjecti n a crowd of people.

I really liked the 85/1.8 but for some reason I sold it, looking to replace it but I'll probably end up buying it again, the 85/1.2 is pretty $ compared to the 85/1.8. I tried out the 50/1.4 but @ 1.4 the colour/contrast wasn't too impressive until it was stopped down to 2.8... 85/1.8 @ 1.8's pretty amazing, I think the main reason I sold it was cause on a 1.6x body it's too tight for indoors, now that I'm trying to shoot more outdoors the 85/1.8 fits perfectly
