I am indeed Australian! although my family are Irish.
I have a friend from America and she expressed her hatred for the female australian accent apparently its "whiney" and "hunsky" but the male one is tolerable - apparently >.>

Australia's a great place to visit although it lacks major attractions like america and most euripean places, i guess it's more of an actiony kinda place, but you should definatley pay a visit!

I attempt to do other accents but fail, but i wish you luck in learning the australian accent! I wish i could manipulate accents like her, then i could mess with people.

sigh.. i love Australian people.. i don't care what they said about australian lol most of them are nice to me.

oh yeah, i really don't mind about the attractions.. i want to go there to see the country not the attractions XD, like, the fair, stuff that they sell, the animals, the environment, lifestyle and those kinda stuff.

lol is it true that if a foreigner goes to australia and they cant speak your accent it sounds kinda weird to you guys?

i can probably pull off an italian accent.. ahaha i was raised in indonesia.. so i have my own accent.. i moved to america 3 years ago

Thats the way to go! as a country it's pretty awesome and very natural in comparison with other countries, and i guess we have a relaxing lifestyle and allot of farmers and local markets ect that you could see, Native animals can be seen mostly in country/beachy regions but ive occasionaly seen a koala or two cross bus intersections (i'm not even kidding) XD!

Uhm! I honestly dont know what the Australian accent sounds like because im so 'immune' to it (if that makes sense)but when a foreigner comes to Australia it really stands out, but that would probably be the same if an Australian went to America or England ect.

Oh! I can too but only when the sentance involves pasta and pizza XD. Oh! I have a friend who was raised in indonesia, he has his own kinda australian-indonesian accent.

Oh yeah lots of them are in aussie.. i have several friends that are indonesian and lives in aussie.. but most of them hangs out with only indonesian which is lame ( basing on what i have seen from their pictures lol)

Adelaides a pretty cool place overall, more of a country feel compared to melbourne and queensland ect. It's full of art, street art, and art festivals - (thats music aswell as visual art) so you probably would like adelaide.

This might sound strange......but I noticed on your DA page that you go to 'art school' (Yes?No?Maybe?YES!)
Anyway, I've been looking into going to an art school in Adelaide and all school leavers can go for a scholarship to get into this art school; this requires a portfolio with 6 pieces, and finally what I actually wanted to ask you
- Did you go for a scholarship or present a folio at your art school/college?
and if you did what are art school admission officers looking for in a portfolio?

you are lucky because the school on asks 6 pieces.
yes i do go to an art school. its called gnomon VFX (you can google it)
and yes i do take out loans.. i got scholarships from my community college before i applied to gnomon. so im using that money for art supplies
I had to present 25 works
i showed them my sculptures, (different mediums)from wire, resin, clay (waterbased and oilbased), wood, plaster, and paper. for 2D stuff i showed them my portrait, figure drawing, and creature sketch, watercolor, ink, graphite, conte,charcoal, and a prismacolor drawing.

the admission officers look for a variety of work you are capable of,. the more medium you can handle the more versatile you are, it helps if your techniques are strong,and they want to see the level of your creativity.. (line weights,composition, lights, values, all that jazz)


art school is intense, the one i have.. i have different schedule every term, i am on a 3 year program where i am learning the fundamentals on the first year (traditional stuff) and i will get into the 3D digital stuff on the 2nd and 3rd year. new homeworks everyweek, its a quarter term based. money involved ( supplies .. gotta get my own) i just wasted 79 bucks for clay and some tools.

Oh! 25 pieces is quite allot but im going to assume that the school has far more competition due the population and the larger amount of artistic talent in the U.S (not implying that Australian art schools are easy to get into due to the population). I'm going to comment by observation and say that your a very diverse artist.

Thankyou so much for helping me in terms of what the admission officers are looking for, it really does help and hopefully I'll be able to practice with a variety of mediums and 'strengthen' my techniques over the next 12 months. When you say that they want to see "the level of your creativity" what do you mean? (sorry if that seems like a silly comment)

I had a tour around the school and looked at the program/schedule and it did seem pretty intense, but i kinda look at this in a good way because intesity in many aspects of learning often makes you a stronger learner (depending on the type of person you are). You learn so much and it sounds like you'll be a pro by the end of it though!

Note to self: START SAVING!

yeah, well in my opinion, hollywood is the heart of the entertainment industry. I've expected them to demand a lot from their applicants. to my observation i think australia has a lot of good art school too.. i have a number of friends from australia on facebook that actually works in the entertainment industry, many of them goes to australian art schools too.. cant remember who or what the names are though. hmm..
i have too many likes!! i dont even know which one i want to go for my career.. i love doing special effects make-up, I love doing concept art digital or traditional, i love sculpting, i want to make props that they make for movies, i want to do some costuming ( i want to learn how to sew.. ) , i LOVE doing jewelry, i like mouldmaking, I want to build models in 3D.. so yeah.. i am just curious what i am capable of.. im still deciding..
But currently i am practicing using airbrush to color my sculptures.

sorry hmm what i meant by that was.. i guess if you are capable of creating something original, different.. (interviewer tends to like something they dont see commonly, you need to observe what type of works the student in the art school make/produce, look at their style.. and do a lot of research of the kind of things that you like, if its a product of entertainment, researh about the artist, see their background, look them up, their websites and such , what makes you feel inspired ) I get inspired by googling a bunch of sculptures i want to do. i observe their style. its like looking at a brushstroke on a painting.. "The more knowledge you have the more ideas you have to create something" - neville page.

mmhm i think thats the goal.. that is why most of art schools like that are in a quarter system base. everything is fast paced

Woah! Sorry it has taken so long to reply, I've been working my way through allot of school work latley so I havent been on much. :/

WOW! All of those ideas sound really awesome! Special effects make-up would be amazing and it would be so much fun to make normal people look like disgusting other- worldy creatures, even creating the Marvel Characters would be amazing. Actually, I think working with any form of art in the movie/entertainment industry would be a mind blowing experiance. I personaly love writing stories and creating characters so i've always thought a job in Illustration would be cool but there are so many choices out there and i've got a long way to go before i decide.

In the Christmas holidays me and my family will be travelling allot so i'm very excited to find 'foreign' insperation (if that makes sense) aswell as insperation from other artist.

I'd really like to improve my general techniques, mostly with painting (mostly with oil paints).

yes just keep in mind that IF you ever thought about working for disney ,one thing you need to know and remember. they own everything you draw. lol so you have to be careful if you really are working for them.

Indeed. My dad has some friends over there and most of them live of their art work, they do those really detailed wood carvings and canvas paintings so im really excited to meet them and see all their art work. Oh! Bali is awesome! Our family is into surfing and bali is known for the beaches and the size of the waves so thats one of the main reasons we are visiting Bali (aswell as the elephants, temples and awesome-ness).

Oh! That sounds awesome. I'll have to visit some museums when I go to America.
