oh hey, since we are close in age range... i am considering moving overseas at the end of my stay here, and australia is a place i am considering. perhaps you could tell me a bit about your life in australia... sydney or melbourne would probably be my destination. thanks in advance

To start off generally, Australia is a great place (which may or may not be a biased comment). The people are, on the whole, friendly, easygoing and fun (An American will have no trouble getting along here) - it's quite a multicultural place too. If you are planning to study design here, i hear RMIT is one of our better unis (that's in Melbourne). Melbourne is regarded as our arts city. I also know the weather there is very moody - four seasons in one day kinda thing. Sydney is the busiest and most cosmopolitan. There's a lot more to see and do on the East Coast.
And just a small plug on Perth, We're a lot smaller city meaning the people are more laidback, a tad friendlier, our weather is great and if you like nature and beaches, Western Australia is a good state to consider (but our design school is pretty shocking). Warning: Perth has been dubbed Dullsville in the past. Personally, i like the quietier city lifestyle.
And no, we don't have kangaroos in our backyards.

Lol.. i love your "no we dont' have kangaroos in our backyard" reminds me of us canadians going "no we don't live in igloos, or have polar bears walk down the streets, or have pet beavers.. and we are not lumberjacks.. etc."
lol, i've been to australia once, near melbourne, and I'd just thought I'd (uselessly) say how much I like australia and would like to visit that (your) country more.
