Morty is the fourth Gym Leader to be encountered. A user of the Ghost-type, Morty is known as "The Mystic Seer of the Future". Morty is a follower of legendary Pokémon, and trains in Ecruteak so he may be able to see the rainbow bird Ho-Oh. He is friends with Eusine; it is alluded that he may have been Morty's predecessor as Ecruteak Gym Leader.
The body of Morty's gym is a dark pit. Trainers appear to float over it, standing on an invisible floor. Some trainers are scared away by the ghosts within the gym. A challenger able to navigate along the invisible floor can safely reach Morty and challenge him. Once defeated, he will yield the Fog Badge, and TM30 (Shadow Ball).

Ah, just minding his own business...when he feels a tug on his scarf. He turns around slowly to see who had done this act. He sees a raven haired male, and just blinks a bit.
"Um, hello there...?" he said, noticing how silent the other was.

He was having the time of his life just staring at the thing. The design was so unique. Why didn't he have cool clothes like this? So unfai-- WHOA KARATE STANCE.
". . . !!" Red moved a few paces quickly backward. He flung his arms maniacally in front of his face due to the shock. Obviously he had forgotten there was a person on the other end of that scarf. He regained his composure and stopped his Jackie Chan bluff just some seconds after.
The boy waved, with an embarrassed forced smile on his face. ". . . ;;"

Ah, well Morty’s scarf is pretty cool. <33 He notices the strange pose, chuckling lightly while crossing his arms. This guy didn’t seem threatening or anything. So he dismisses it all, offering a reassuring smile. This boy was awfully quiet, he notes. Oh well.
“And who’re you?” he asks curiously with a smirk. “I don’t think I’ve seen you before. I’m Matsuba,” he introduced, extending a hand for the other to shake.

'Matsuba'. Red would remember that name forever. Associating it with 'oh em gee that scarf.'
".. Red.", he answered, seemingly not as embarrassed anymore. The younger male shook the hand with a grin painted on his face. Espeon motioned and squirmed against the boy's leg, wanting to be introduced. He picked up the cat-like psychic Pokémon, showing it off to Matsuba. "Espeon.", Red smiled.
