hi
well I'm totally self taught since I starting drawing digitally on a whim >o<
I learnt looking at totorials and searching for resource but mostly trying to mess up with colors (lol)
I'm sorry my process explaination picture isn't enough ç_ç actually that was my best try to explain people my method...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mingapur In reply to SpigaRose [2014-04-22 20:02:50 +0000 UTC]

Hi,
well I'm also learning by my self more or less. Though I sometimes just ask people about it on a whim.
I'm also learning by tutorials and try to folllow them but I simply don't seem to have much sense for colorcombination. Espcially shadow colores are a bother.

If it's okay for you I'dd like you to look at a picture I drw and help me by saying what I could do better or where the problem is.

I also noticed your tutorial, that's actually why I started tlking to you XD

I hope I'm not being to direkt and over... (aw I'm missing a word sorry, i'm german so sometimes I just can't find the right word ) .

Anyway thanks for your help

oh I see, so you have problem with palette color and to choose colors for shading,
then I recommand you this site kuler.adobe.com/create/color-w…
here you can find a lot of palette colors (for free!) and you can chose your favorites for your drawings
also I recommand to not use much black or white alone for the shading, changing colors is fine but try to change color tone more than simply move to a darker color :3
yes, if you want link me a picture, I'll try to tell you what you can change
don't worry, I'm as bad at english as you

mingapur In reply to SpigaRose [2014-04-22 20:31:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot for all the great advice. I'm really glad that you are helping me so much

I already tried the kuler. I have installed it in Photoshop aswell. But even with a color palette I dont manage to use the colors right. I have the problem that my colors seem all the same there is no big contrast between them but more like the no color color contrast (I can't really explain it). Here is another culer I use:
colrd.com/create/palette/

There is the link to my latest colored picture:

mingapur.deviantart.com/art/au…

I think The colors are not really catching the eye and seem all of the same kind they don't stick out at all just the green of the over jacket seems to extreme.
I actually wanted the picture to seem a little more rough and the light should have seemed a bit darker.

May I ask where you are from?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpigaRose In reply to mingapur [2014-04-22 21:38:53 +0000 UTC]

uhm... you have a really common artist problem, digital is a bit different from other medias,
try to move around colors more, for exemple, in the hair at the bottom they're too black. try to use black less possible, try to use red instead, the skin too, it is grey more than pink (I don't know if it is wanted thought >o<) so try to move to a peach color nearer the yellow to move more to a more reddish tone for the shadows.
for a darker atmosphere you can add a trasparent blue/purplish layer above.
I tried to say it the best way I could, sorry if it is confusing ç_ç
anyway I'm from Italy

Hope your even still on deviant art. I've been on a long haiatus and even study in the direction now - as 2D artist for games.
I'm from Germany- though if I remember correctly I allready mentioned this.

WOW, thanks a lot thet was some really helpful advice. I saved the message so I can use it with my next picture.
And your explanation wasn't confusing at all.
Maybee 'll switch to another color mixing table to avoid using black for shadow color.
I actually plan to mace an experiment on colors by taking pictures and looking at them in diferent light conditions. Maybee that will help me.

You're from Italy? Sometimes I'm really greatfull that a lot of people all around the world are able to speak english so it's possible for them to meet and understand eachother.
Well I've been to Italy before and though thats a cliche I thought the food was pretty awesome and tasty.

mingapur In reply to SpigaRose [2014-04-26 20:35:16 +0000 UTC]

I've never been to rome but it's cultural sights are quite interesting also -but as I bet you know already all to well- a lot of well known and famous artists lived there and got inspired by the city.
What do you like best about rome? I mean which place inspires you the most?

I have been to a lot of diferent countries before and what always facinates me are the diferent cultures with their own laws and way of life. But it's also interesting when many cultures meet and mix. Take Singapore for an example. You have all those holidays that actually belong to difernt cultures such as the new year ( 1.1) and the chinese new year or the light festival and easter.

Actually Germany is known for it's bad history, leather trousers (though they only belong to a small part of germany), beer and saussages, cars.... and beeing a little stiff and having no humor. Though I think the youger generations are diferent in that point.

Another thing would be famus musicians like Mozart or Bach. The first famous artist from Germany  I can think of is Gerhard Richter. If I remember right his pictures sell for very high sums.

I hope I didn't bother you with my non stop writing.
I guess you noticed, that sometimes I can be quite talkative.

SpigaRose In reply to mingapur [2014-04-26 21:53:08 +0000 UTC]

ahahaha dear you really don't bother me at all
actually it is really fun exchangin opinions and chat
uhm... about Rome I expecially like old buildings and sculpture (I expecially love Colosseum even if I went inside only one time)
I like also paintings and church but I don't go there often since their main purpose is to pry, I feel like I'm disturbing  if I go there to only look at some paintings....

well I think Germany is quite fascinating, I went there with school some years ago and Berlin was so beautiful, people were nice and I enjoyed my stay there, there were some really beautiful art pieces too
I'm going to go again in Germany soon for Sakuracon, I'm looking so forward to it even if I'm not done with my cosplay yet (and even if i don't know a german word ç_ç)
and yes, I like talkative people since I'm shy and silent in normal circustances

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mingapur In reply to SpigaRose [2014-04-27 06:39:06 +0000 UTC]

I also feel that way in churches. The atmosphere makes me feel like an intruder.

Sacura con? I just looked it up because it wasn't in the register for german conventions and came up with the US. (england i guess though there are more countries to the us.)

I'm going to be on the cosday and still thinking about getting tikets for conichi. Just recently I was in Würzburg to help on the ticon. Though it was my first convention except the bookfair in Frankfurt. Even though it's a bookfair it's like on a convention probably because they sell manga too.

I'm also working on a cosplay and mine isn'T finished aswell. I should really start working on it if I want to finish on time.
Who (or what) are you cosplying?
I can teach you your first german word right now: Hello = Hallo
and one more Thanks = Danke

That's all you need for  a start. German is too dificult for lesrning. Or at least thats my opinion. You can learn it, of course- but it's either really dificult and takes you a long time or you're a genious.

But English is just fine. Most younger german people will understand you, because we learn it in school and often even use the internet in english - like I am right now. The biggest problem will be that most have quite an accent.

I'm happy that you enjoy talking too.

She gave dance lessons together with a boy from my class and her friends. Maybe you nocided her? My best friend told me she cosplyed as a character from daganronpa (It might be spelled like this but actually I have no idea) which is another game which was also animated later on. She cosplayed a character called kirigiri.

Hi,
German school is just so stressfull that I often have the feeling that I don't have enough time for myself. Is yours the same or are you already out of school?

I know what you mean. It was the same on the bookfair in Frankfurt. You nearly couldn't move at all inside the building.
I'm amazed that I didn't get lost or separated from my group.

Do you have a picture of your cosplay? I'd love to see it!

I think I will manage to get my final exams and graduate from school. Did you also go through the whole programm or did you finish early. I actually have no idea of the school system in italy. In germany there are three diferent types of highschools and I'm on the one which takes the longest and has the highest ranking graduation - But of course it's probably also the hardest. Curently there is also a trange system called G( it basicly sais that the school tie is shortened from 13 years to 12, which just causes more stress for the students in my opinion.

Oh well I'm nearly finished.

Did you study somethig?

The bad quality of the picture doesn't really bother me but it's sad thet I can't see your cosplay from the front. I tried searching for it on a german anime fan page (ANIMEXX). There are tens of thousands of pictues from the recent hanami. Did you go to the league of legends fan meeting because I think i sawsomeone in the same cosplay. Well from what I see, I think you really did a great job!

Actually I was also searching for my friends pictures and was suprised to see that when I searched I found a photo of my friend on the first page.

www.fotocommunity.de/pc/pc/dis…

Did you also go to the hanami with your friends and are you goingt to visit germany again for a conventin.
Because I'm thinking of working as helper again.

Also I decided to do gintoki from gintama as next character. I had the idea because I realized that my cosplay is going to be much to warm for summer (It's black after all) and then searched for a charcter that I like a lot that wears something a bit less warm.

I also like allen walker from d.gray-man a lot. No idea why I like male characters with white hair the most (Hollow Ichigo from bleach is no exception, though I also like Ulquiorra (spelled something like that I guess) a lot)

What characters do you like or prefer and are you already planing a new cosplay?

WOW I wrote a lot! I'm surprised myself. I hope I didn't spam you too much.

ehr.... I'm kinda older than you I think ^^" I finished university already...
I hope you'll be fine with your studies, don't give up è_é it is really brave of you choosing the hardest school >o<

I'm glad you like my cosplay
yup unfortunately there are tons of picture and it is so difficult searching for someone XD and yes there was another cosplayer with the same cosplay as mine so it is even more difficult lol XD

such a cool picture of your friends! really beautiful! *w*

yes, I went to Hanami 'cause a friend invited me over and I don't know if I'll go there again (I'd like to though, even if it is as a tourist )
uhm... if I can vote on a character I'd say Gintoki is at the first place and Allen at the second yes (well actually I like Allen more but her costume is really difficult so I'd rather not recommand that XD) and I approve your crushes on white haired guy
regardin my next cosplay I was thinking of sewing this uniform for Satsuki 0-media-cdn.foolz.us/ffuuka/bo…
and this costume too since my friend invited me to a cosplay group sandeian.files.wordpress.com/2…

I hope I'll finish them both for the next convention

mingapur In reply to SpigaRose [2014-05-27 19:06:06 +0000 UTC]

Well there is no age limit for studying. Actually it's quite common that there are many people who just thought that they wanted to start anew or work in a diferent field. I actueööy know a person who intends to study a fird time. Though I think thats kind a overdoing it XD.

WARNING - long explenation

It's not that brave to chose the 3 type of school. It's s just the hardes of the three diferent types. You can even change to it if you finished at a school of another type because most of them have only 10 years. There are many 'titles' you get when going through school and depending on which you have you can study or continue in a specialized school. If you want to have all options you hve to get the ABI which  you get by doing the final exams in the Gymnasium (my type of school). Actually I could leave school now and start studying because I already have the '10 year' school Title. and finishing this year will give me the 'specific ABI' title (roughly translated) which I need for the school I at which I want to study.

The German school system is quite complicated (Even I don't understand all of it) and also a bit unfair because it's actually not the kids decision to make on which school they go.

Primary school is the first 4 years where you learn the basics and depending on your results, the recomendation of the teachers and the parents opinion you will go to one of the three types of high school.

This actually leads to cultural segregation because often imigrants or kids whos parents only did the 10 years are also transfered to a ' 10 year' school because they are afraid that they wont make it on the other one.

On top of that there are private schools that manage their lessons in a completly diferent way but require payment.

There is this up to 10 year system because by law you only have to go to school for 10 years. You do the rest more or less of your free will.

END

I don't mind if you didn't read all of my explenation. At least I practiced my english (*being very optimistic*), oh and my 10 finger writing I'm awfull at it.

About the Hanami: Did you have yor hair (or better the hair of the wig) open or in a ponytail? On the picture you sent me it was open but I found some pictures with the same cosplay with a ponytail. I just wanted to confirm if it's you or not.

You want to cosply the character from Kill la kill, right (might be mistaken)? I think you're pretty currageous to actually wear such clothes. I started watching the anime but it's just not really my type... Those skirts aren't the only thing that's damn short after all.

I don't know the second character. Where is he from?

mingapur In reply to SpigaRose [2014-04-27 19:14:37 +0000 UTC]

Isn't the Hanami today?
I just started going to conventions recently, but I think I enjoy the feel of it.
I still have about 3-4 months left to finish my cosplay so there's still some time, but better soon than late I guess.

I haven't played the league of legends, but the catacter  looks pretty awesome.
Though she seems to be a little hard to cosplay. I thought so because of the horn the long ears and hair aswell as her waepon.
My caracter is a lot easier to cosplay -I guess_ and hes from a game too.

He has two names: he calles himself 'the anguished one' and his real name is alcor.
He's from the game Schin Megami Tensey: Devil Survivor 2
The game was also published as manga and anime. But the look of the character was slightly changed. I preffer the game version which I will also cosplay.

There's a link from the first picture I came across:
31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9a…

I tried to apply some of your sugestions for coloring and colored one of my old linearts.
Also I tried to make it seem as if there was some extreme light so it would seem less soft.
I'm not entirely happy with the result and the shaddows of the scarf are to light but I think I made some progress, compared to before.

There's the link:
