hey thanks a lot for faving my work! ^^ hehe... it was a bit work in progress tho and not my best work due to that but I'm happy that you liked it enough to fave it. it really makes me more confident in my stuff hehe!
you have an lovely art style yourself. self taught?

missiefish In reply to JackieCoco [2016-08-09 11:18:00 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! In drawing I am self taught, though I actually do some 3D stuff too! (I don't think I've posted anything 3D yet though)
Which I've been learning in courses. I really think your model looks great so far and I could probably learn from it haha

JackieCoco In reply to missiefish [2016-08-09 12:08:49 +0000 UTC]
ooh you are in 3D courses!? where? is it an online course? I really want to get some education too! xD
haha, I still have a long way to go. especially the model you faved, it has too high poly for a mobile game, but it might be too low poly for any other game... and I still don't have a decent flow with the polys which could be a problem when animating... heh, character models might not be my thing... ^^'
I'm sure your works are great! don't hesitate to post them, the 3D art community in dA is very warm and friendly! ^^ I've gotten so much good feedback and nice comments, i don't think I would've figured most things on myself.

I go to a course in my local city but depending on where you live they might have a branch near you? its called AIE (Academy of Interactive Entertainment) I also know of a youtube channel that might be helpful here
I know that without the course I would have never even started to get my head around 3D modelling so you being self taught is really impressive to me, I've made a character model before (pic2) but its no where near as good as yours.
pic1 pic2 (I forgot to give it knees at first which made for hilarious movement)
How do you tell if a mesh is to high/low poly for a system? I knew it was a thing but I never really knew how to tell.
I really think your character model is looking good and I think you should keep at it!

I checked out the AIE, seems really cool and inspiring place to study! haha I'm jelly! and the youtube channel seems to cover many things regarding game development, I'll def check it out, thanks!
I'm flattered by your compliments, but please don't devalue yourself while doing so! your model is really good, especially if it's your first! my first 10 models were so broken or ugly that I had to trash them. I encountered errors and didn't know what to do, or didn't know how to fix a mistake and ended up making everything worse... :c I really like the textures on your model, especially the hair! and pic1 will look really cool interior scene if you texturize and render it! ^^
um how do I tell if it's too high poly or not.. that's kinda hard to tell, most often I just check the tris count or something and compare it to existing game models. I bet there is a better way for it tho! I aimed to make a low poly model, but the model is probably a bit high for most mobile games. the higher the poly the harder it is I guess? I'm kinda newbie with these things tbh, so forgive my bad answer. ( forum.unity3d.com/threads/3d-m… this is a good thread about the subject, it's a bit old and they talk about real game models, not that much low poly mobile game models. I try to make low poly since they tend to be pretty appreciated in the indie community, people want their game to run smoothly on as many platforms as possible. I don't understand the vertex things or how to make optimal models so I just try to make as "probably" optimal as possible. less is more?) I hope someone might be able to give you a better answer
