The blonde was walking to school, since her step-dad hadn't had time to drive her and Devon today due to work,Β and her mother didn't care enough to do so, holding her younger brother's hand due to having to take him to his kindergarten class. It was chilly today and she walked briskly, tugging her brother behind her for them to keep warm.Β
After a bit they made it to school, and Joline dropped her brother off at his classroom before hurrying to her classroom and to her seat next to Kenny McCormick. {{ bc admin is lame ok? }}Β
She noticed that Mr. Garrison seemed to be introducing a new student, and was slightly excited to see who they might be. New people, new friends in general, always excited Joline.

Beau didn't even pay attention as the teacher introduced him and his sister to the class. The room was filled with a dozen gawking children and their stares were starting to annoy him. As soon as the teacher stopped talking, Beau went to take his seat. Unfortunately, there were only two empty seats available and they were on opposite sides of the room. Giving his sister a distraught look, he turned and slid into on of the desks situated next to a girl with long blond hair tied up in a braid.Β

Joline smiled excitedly as the new boy sat next to her. She
turned to glance at him, sticking her hand out and saying in a soft
voice,
"Hi! I'm Joline- since it looks like we'll be sitting next to eachother for
a while, I think it's safe to say we'll probably talk and...be friend and
such? Your name is Beau right? Is that French? It sounds pretty French."

Beau jumped when the girl next to him suddenly spoke. Why was she smiling at him like they were friends? He couldn't help but think all Americans were probably going to be weird like her. He looked down at the hand she offered to him and scrunched up his nose before looking away. He faced the board and kept his lips glued shut, hoping she'd leave him alone.

The blonde waited expectantly for him to shake her hand,
but when he scrunched his nose and looked away, she felt herself
screaming internally. Did this kid know nothing of how to greetΒ
someone, even if they weren't friend, didn't he know how to
say hello? She felt her frown deepening. This kid.
"I can be nice, or I can be a bit of a bitch. It's your choice dude."
she said, reclining her hand and turning to look at the board.Β
She crossed her arms and slumped in her desk a little, mumbling
"Jeez, try to make friends with a kid and they act like you're
disease-ridden."

Beau stared at her and let out a small sigh. Still facing the board, he mumbled, "Hello. I am Beau. Yes, I am French. I don't want friends." His voice was quiet but it was very heavily accented and his sentences were choppy at best. It was obvious he wasn't yet fluent in English.

"Why don't you want to be friends?" she asked, continuing
to stare towards the front, still talking softly since Mr. Garrison hadΒ
started teaching about some movie actor or something. "I'm a perfectly
friendly person, most of the time. So why wouldn't you just want to try
to be friends. Or maybe you don't want any friends. That'd make sense I do
suppose."

"Because I don't need." He says simply, "I have my sister." He looks at her with a blank expression on his face.Β

"But don't you want more friends? I mean, I love
my little brother, but having other people to do things
with and have fun with is something that's also enjoyable,
y'know?" she let another small smile appear on her face.
"Well, that and he's in kindergarten, so I can't do a lot of
stuff with him cause he's not quite..old enough ahah"

Beau practically cringes at her suggestive. "Why would I want? People are annoying." He looks her over with a critical look in his eyes. "They talk too much and ask stupid questions..." His sarcasm is a little clumsy but it's still pretty obvious.Β

"Maybe, but at least people can be nice" she said, crossing her arms and shutting
her eyes as the frown appeared back on her face. Jeez this kid. She missed her other
friends that she used to sit by. Where was Avery at a time like this? Now THERE was
a fun kid!Β
"Whatever, if you don't wanna be friends fine, not like I care.." she said, but this was obviously
a big fat lie.

Beau snorts in mocking amusement. "It is written all over your face. You are upset that I don't like you, blondie." He half smirks at her.

"I'm not upset" she grumbled, crossing her arms a bit tighter
over her flat child chest, "Why would I be upset that some lame
asshole like you doesn't like me?" she shut her eyes, turning her chin upΒ
and spoke again, "You probably don't even tolerate porn so why would I
wanna hangout with someone against my interests. Sheesh."

Beau stares at her like she's grown a second head. "C'est quoi ce bordel? What does porn have to do with anything? You're weird." He frowns at her.

"Friends have to share interests. If you don't tolerate my hobbies
then how could we ever be friends?" She asked, nodding her headΒ
as if convincing herself.Β

Beau scrunches his nose at her again. "You're like, what? Ten years old. Why in the world are you interested in porn? Shouldn't you like barbie dolls or something?"

"Because it's interesting? Why would Barbie dolls interest me?
nothing but trash plastic unrealistic pieces of trash." she told him,
looking over at him with a completely straight face.Β

Beau stares blankly at her. "I don't understand. Are all Americans as weird as you?"

Joline blinked, then shrugged. "Everyone's weird in their own right.
My weird just so happens to be different from your weird. Because I am sure
you have something weird about you."

Beau just raises an eyebrow at her. "Not anything as weird as you. I'm not some sexually frustrated ten-year-old girl. Quel est le problème avec vous, de toute façon...?"

I just like watching and reading that stuff. Also," she frowned a bit more,
"I don't understand French, so you should probably tell me what you mumbled
just now."

Beau gives her a mocking smile, "obviously you're sexually frustrated if you're drowning yourself in porn? And if I said it in french, it was obviously not meant for you to be able to understand." He sticks his tongue out childishly.

she looked at him as he stuck his tongue outΒ
childishly at her, slight relief filling her face. OK.
So this kid was actually a child instead of a stuffyΒ
weird mini adult. Good.
"You shouldn't say things about people when they can't
understand it." she shook her head, a small smile littering herΒ
face.Β

"That's the exact reason I said it in French. Because I don't want people to understand." He mumbles, "stop acting like my mother, it's weird."Β
