I think Proust said that its the mistakes and sufferings that make life worth living, and that at the end, far into his life, he realised that he missed those days. or something like that. I don't know I coz haven't yet read marcel proust yet...

I've never even heard of Proust. But he sounds very French. I remember reading something that reminded me of what you just said. Basically it's a "grass is always greener" quote, or a variation of it, but it goes on to describe how, when you're in the thick of things, like say a relationship that's gone sour, all you want to do is escape it. But once you do, all of the misery that was with you evaporates, and the only thing left is the beauty that once was the bond you shared with someone you loved.
Whoever said that must have never had a broken heart.
I wish reality was more like though, my life would be gorgeous.

Not quite the grass is greener; its like gone far in life, you take a moment and reflect, and you realise that the joys and happiness come from those days when when you were still learning, making mistakes, suffering and now that you are fine, there is none and you missed those times.. The allusion you made is sweet and you're right he is french! He is a famous writer of his time but his books are really hard to read. Actually I watched 'Little Miss Sunshine', and at the end there is a quote.
Not sure if he never had his heart broken, he died very old.

I think we all want someone to love them. But once we find them we remember just how much it sucked the last time when things didn't turn out the way they wanted them to, so they leave. Then they start to miss it and it starts all over again.
On a separate note, I've never watched "Little Miss Sunshine" but I love the soundtrack!
