Very late Happy B-Day Fred.....  been lost exploring the Jwidfire program.  very nice, but your apoahamator (forgive any miss spelllinggg),  dose better animation sequences.    I wish your script could be expanded to accommodate  the JWF flames and variations .would also love to adapt the lovely animation friendly variations that you created.  they are some of my favorites.

have you seen JWF?  basically Apo done with Java.
I would love to hear from you.  T'sarveK

Hi Fred,  longgg time no talk.  my art is turning toward fractals again.  just recently heard about the GPU flam3 render.  Fractorium I think?...   would love to have a copy, but all the links i can find are dead (404).  thought you might know where i might find one.    Also thought you would like to know that the animations I made using your script are currently being seen in a club here in seattle,  (dance club)   they are part of the DJ's video track.  i did give you credit for your scripts use in making them.   Hope to here from you here soon.

(Since I haven't actually worked at all until then... e'cept um for um... some rare occasions.)
So now I'm busily employed trying to figure out what I wanna be for the next 65.

Hi Fred, I am finally back  again, lots happened, Wife passed, Dad passed,  but doing much better now.
I have just up graded my comp again and went to look at the new Apo7x and after i got it set up I noticed that there was no Script button.  Did it get removed, or hidden?  If you don't know, can you direct me to someone that would.  If i remember right 7Xb was the last to correctly run Your Animator, was it not? Do you know where I might find it?

You've got it, *7X-B* is the last Apo *7X* version I use myself because beyond that the *7X* versions present problems that I have found no way to correct.
I'm not sure about *D* but I know *7X-C* still has the scripter and scripts will work.
The main problem I encountered with scripts in the *7X* versions after *B* is my habit of making fancy Input dialogs with lots of choices.  For some reason the input box doesn't collapse it just gets longer (... it's like there is no "line feed" happening where there should be).

I do remember Georg trying to get that resolved...
THE glitch began when a new version of the scripter engine was used in the 7X-C update.  There were a couple of other problems I never got around too mentioning because the animator script is just not workable beyond 7X-B.
Anyway, Apo 7X itself, in v16 I think has moved beyond my ability to do code for special features that have been added since 15.  So I didn't care much about the scripter going bye bye and it seemed to be a hassle for George so if it's easier for him then that's a good thing.
He did write somewhere around here that he tried to contact the people who distribute scripter "engine" software about the problem but was (well, obviously) unable to resolve the problem.
Hey... I can still run the script if I want ^!^, so that's my good thing.  I never intended to do anything like it so it was all a pleasant surprise to me that it even happened and I was fortunate after all to be able to fit in just at the right time that it was interesting to a few other people like you!!

Puff.... I guess I'm feeling kinda longwinded at the moment.
One last thing is you ask in a subsequent note is What I used to make some deviations but you didn't say which images.  I have to assume you mean the Mandelbulb stuff which I do with the Mandlebulb3D v1.89 program.
I think you're able to recognize FE and Apo images.
There should be a direct download link for Mandelbulb3D program in the description of at least a few of those "M3D" images I've uploaded here in my gallery.

Sorry, no emoticon, gotta go.
HTH, () sorry () to hear people important to you have passed.

Don't tell me you were listening to that song on your birthday. Is this what I gotta look forward to "When I'm 64"?

So you're still working on fractals? GOOD. I wasn't sure if you were or on some more scripts or what. I haven't animated anything since Dec and have been craving to. I've been doing a little more drawing, trying to squeeze that in so that's a good thing. You switched over to the 3D fractal side if I'm not mistaken........

......oh yeah, I've been planning a trip to the Amazon in a few weeks. All I need is a few hundred more for the Center I'm headed to and I'm good, I already got my plane ticket booked and my passport came Mon in the mail. I'm really excited about this trip.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

morphapoph In reply to boot-cheese-3000 [2014-08-05 01:41:37 +0000 UTC]

Nah I wasn't listening to the song . Thinking about it was unavoidable for me though.
I's kinda like reaching a "milestone" though having first heard the song so long ago and being unable to imagine what the heck 64 would be like even if I did try.  The song itself is speculative, done by young people & (originally, probably) intended for young people.
So I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah, I couldn't help but think of the tune - & it's not uncommon for me to think of a whole variety of the "fab four's" songs often enough anyway.
Have you abandoned the artists you once listened to in earlier times?

I did put a few M3D creations up to my gallery in the 2014 folder.  The 3D should be visible but I think I forgot to note the Mandelbulb3D software in some of them.
The images aren't hard to upload - choosing them is and I don't really like making explanations but I sometimes feel a need or compulsion to do that.
I haven't had a mind to do scripts lately.  I may try to work with Apo again in a few weeks.  I have to use another computer for that and I wanted to keep that system off for a month to see how much it was contributing to my utility bill.   It does seem to be the main energy hog, because when it's on it's rendering fractals a lot of the time, and the CPU (core i7-920) alone is gobbling up 130 watts.

wowza 4 yuza...
Anticipating a trip to a faraway place would get a person going I guess.  I would get the butterfly belly experience when I would anticipate traveling.  Sometimes the butterflies gnawed more instantaneously when I would throw some clothes in a backpack, & get up and go.
Different kind of butterfly from the others I guess, because the latter had a lot more energy than those that experienced slowly escalating energy growth while I waited for some anticipated trip to happen.

Someone was applying for a passport in the PO when I was there the other day.  Seemed like it was a difficult process.

I never had a need 'cause I only once traveled outside USoA, but that was to Canada when I was a little kid in the '50s as part of a week-long vacation.... A passport wasn't necessary.  I only remember Niagara Falls from the Canadian side - oh, and some of the Erie Canal.  We came back in through Motor City, hehheh.  Probably we had to be in a 1956 or 77 Plymouth ("Belvedere"?) with long-tall-thin-tail-fins.
It was green with large white areas.  The pattern was more or less standard for the model and there were only a few primary colors if I remember.  The neighbor had one just like it, but red rather than green for the main color.
A big feature at the time was "white wall tires".  Somewhere around 2+ inches of white if there's any accuracy to my memory of them.

Have a good adventure.
Haha: send me an ePostcard.
On second thought, maybe not - even some of those electronic "greeting cards" can be awfully aggressive once they've got your number(s).

boot-cheese-3000 In reply to morphapoph [2014-08-05 17:09:35 +0000 UTC]

If it's an e-postcard it'll be one I make out of one of the photos if I have time. I'm still debating on whether to get a camera or use my phone camera.

Trust me I've been plenty worried and anxious about this trip since the moment I decided that now was the time, as good of a time as any, to take advantage and do it while I still can. Procrastination has always been one of my weaknesses, but most of the time it wasn't due to laziness but lack of confidence as well as depression. I gotta stop this somewhere sometime somehow, so why not now beginning with this trip? You gotta be the 2nd person that referred to this trip as an "adventure" (the other was a Graphic Designer) and I'm starting to think of this more and more as an adventure, or at least need to. I'm beginning to believe that I'm coming off too serious at times and others not so serious, so you can imagine what's going on in my head sometimes.

You built a new computer or modified an old one? What the hell is a core i7-920 Processor anyways? I've been planning on getting a new laptop, I figure I'm going to need another one if I plan on doing some DJing and VJing, I won't be able to do both on 1 laptop. What kind of laptop do you think I should get for an upgrade? I definitely need one with a nice-sized hard drive and that's strong enough to render fractals and movie files as well as music. I'm still learning how to code here and there and right now am in the middle of relearning how to build a website on Codecademy, some pet project they have for members on there. Since I already took the course on HTML and CSS this is all coming back to me. I think after this I'm going to experiment with some ideas of my own and build some websites, see what types of designs I can come up with. One website I have in mind will be using art and animation as well as quotes and articles and such. If you don't mind I would love to use some of your artwork and animated fractals.

Filing for a passport is pretty complicated if you don't have certain info like your parent's birthday or your Birth Certificate. Fortunately I had mines but didn't know my parent's birthday. My older brother gave me a ride and was there in the office so thankfully he was able to help me with that. After that was taken care of I got my photo, paid the bill, and then got my form telling me to wait 4-6 weeks for my passport. It came a month later and a couple days ago my Birth Certificate came back (you HAVE to give them your Birth Certificate--NO EXCEPTIONS).

Canada in the '50s? That I can't imagine Sir let alone any place in the '50s. That era seems as bygone as the one I grew up in that is being regurgitated by Pop Culture over and over and over ad nauseum. Everything is moving so damn fast nobody has time to enjoy life anymore.

Damn you had to end that with a coding joke? So computer geeky, that's as cheesy as a binary code prank. Still if I can get it that means it's starting to sink in. I looked around at a few other companies and they make you pay for their courses, they aren't free like certain sites I've been to like edX and Coursera. They might give you 1 free class here and there but not a COURSE. I kinda like Codecademy, it's a nice primer to getting started on coding and programming. If I was to take the Python course on Coursera I'd probably have a leg up because of the course.

I was supposed to be leaving next Friday but my family's been fucking with me all of a sudden and I'm having a tough time getting a job, and it's not because I couldn't find anything like in the beginning (now it's going on a month since I've been out of work). I'm postponing the trip until next month, I just need the money for the Center, I got everything else. I'm not cancelling this trip no matter how hard some evil forces are at work allowing things to stall and look bleak at the moment. some changes: FINALLY got a job that I like (last job I was terminated from that assignment because of some idiot at the office as well as a bigger idiot who was my ride) and ALMOST screwed me on this current one by getting me late to the interview but fortunately that didn't matter, I was given another chance. I'm definitely am trying to maintain but too many people in my Life are causing me strife, making things more difficult than they should be, why I have no idea. Hopefully I can afford a laptop pretty soon so I can start animating fractals, something I've been ACHING to do for awhile now, I'm fiending to make more music videos.

How has the fractal endeavors and living going for you besides what you mentioned? It rained here recently and left the cold Autumn chill behind.

Well you're a Master at what you do whether you believe it or not sir, that's a fact.

Yeah I have NO IDEA when I'll be headed to the Amazon. I'm just aiming for sometime next year, it's all I can do. I'm so tired of making plans and them always going awry no matter how best-laid they are. This is why I hate planning things out, it happens each and every time.

As far as that job I told you about I ended up losing that a couple weeks ago. Nobody wanted to help get me to work let alone pick me up, it was always some selfish bullshit about how they didn't feel like it or didn't want to. I was getting stressed out over it, the job was more trouble than it was worth. It was like everything was working against me to not be happy or have that job. Thankfully I found a new one that's much closer, right around the corner. I definitely need to get a car, that's for sure. I will say that during that stressful period I damn near forgot about my Amazon trip I was so stressed concentrating on how to get to work let alone if I was going to keep this job, I don't EVER want to do that again.

So what's had you distracted these days Fred?

Hello Bine,
Thank you for your best wishes to me.
Google translate tells me that your user name means:

Wow~  I took a peek at your Profile and wow2, that is some array of equipment in your photo.
I was garage band kid & my amplifier had only volume, bass and treble controls.  I never got beyond that stage.

When my CPU is not cranked^max I will try to remember to look at some of your animations.  I like animations, but I care not much for cartoonies.
Then again, the very old lightshows at one time used cartoons sometimes in the collage of stuff they projected onto the screens behind the bands.  The light show part of concerts in those times did a kind of layering of projected media of all sorts.  In later decades when the lights went all laser/ballistic, I found myself being more repelled away from, rather than attracted to, ummmm, concerts.
otoh, it's concert costs too, that I wouldn't want to pay if even I had the bucks. The first concert I went to cost 2 1/2 "yankee dollars", maybe only 2.
I heard earlier today that the cost of admission for a musical festival happening these days is around 100 times what I paid to see my first auditorium concert!
While it's true that festivals are usually two or three days of music compared to the few hours at a "dance hall", we used to get, from time to time, some of the most primo music in certain parks when there were still butterflies and bees and other flying things that seem not to be so frequently seen any more.  And though it would have cost the presenters "a pretty penny", none of the odd, awed audience had to pay a single dime.

wah! I'm old stuff, you know, wah! ...sorta like, this old is how old:

Oooooooh... waht a scrumptious looking confection.
Are you signed to DA with your birth info?  I usually don't look at that info... sorta like when I used to hear people say "never ask a woman her age".  With conviction it was usually said so I tended to take it literally. hehheh - I suppose there are those who would find such a limiting statement offensive.
So much for "mores".
Was walking down the street earlier today thinking about how "old fashioned" I can be.  I walk, in fact, and don't drive, and that in itself is old-fashioned.
And I've gotten too slow-moving to get myself to upload anything here, talk about "not keeping up".
ON the DA, fractal side of life, lately I get (more than simply) kinda bummed that so many people went to those wicked little-screened mobile gadgets so I dunno but I think fractals lose something being shrunk t0 fit.

.. __ .. blah blah.  I guess you can tell I appreciate your kindly wished note. blah blah .. __ ..
I tend to blab when I'm happy. ::
I'll try to get some recent material uploaded to show I'm still existent.

I'm near sure I've seen some M3D images you've done and liked them.
A lot, and my mind has boggled whenever I see your images, 'cause I have a hazy recollection of some of your earlier Apophysis creations  U managed to grow into that fractal frontier, din't you huh, fractal friend!

It's "stuck in the 60's" morning for me, atm, due to it being that:
"Captain Trips" would have been 72 yesterday...
It may be kinda wishful-thinking to be able to perceive he's still as grateful as ever could be, imaginatively, I guess, if u can c what I mean.

Hey. So. Hey.  I don't know.
not saying goodbye, hello,
not waving, waving

Hi i am running apothysis7x on a mac via Wine and  Winebottler. I run your script and it works but I cannot find where the animation frames are being saved to. Where can I change the path where Apophymator saves them? Thank you I would really love to see thus final product. : )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

morphapoph In reply to Vular [2014-04-29 04:44:00 +0000 UTC]

You know first you have to set the script up to "render" to produce the frames.
To do that you need to select choice "e" on the first dialog.  \
When the dialog box corresponding to that choice subsequently appears, choose "2" for "Render".

You also need to adjust the rendering settings.  There is a dialog box you will see eventually titled: "Rendering Settings".  The easiest thing to do is to put a 0 (zero) in that box so you can at least look at the default settings and adjust them if you like. They are not any different from the settings you see when rendering a single image with Apo.

Before that dialog finishes a plain vanilla Windows "Save" dialog box appears and this is where you assign the folder (or "directory") for the frame images.  It's a piece of cake once you figure it out.  I had to do all kinds of improvising even to get this much to work.

If you cannot find any images you *think* you rendered, I can only suggest using your computer's search function to try and find them.  You may be stuck for a search term though.  What you can do is go to your Apophysis folder and look for a file named "Amator-12a-Settings.param".  That file will open with Notepad or any text editor.  In the section labeled [Render Choices] there is a line that looks something like this:

ImgPrfx=SomeName

Search for the term to the right of the equal sign ( because that's the name your rendered images will start with.  (The name also includes the frame number appended to the end of that prefix.)

By default I think the script is supposed to render to the Apo folder, but I don't know how or if that works on systems running anything beyond XP.  I especially do not know anything at all about running Apo on Wine on an Apple.  It could be that Apo will run but my script won't.  There's also a third party app named "Scripter Studio" embedded in Apo that handles all the script work and that could be a problem on non-Windows machines.

hth,
Fred

hi morphapoph,

in case you haven't seen them yet, i finally uploaded the first of the fully rendered animations, including the static fractal images from your work.

i'm taking a few more days break to work on my video games project, then i intend to start using apo, and of course would appreciate any help if you're available at the time.

Ratty dude, I think this is choice man!  I am amazed and I think what you've done is amazing even though I am a little involved with your project.  I think you deserve all of the credit - it looks to me as though you could do what you've done with all kinds of people's work and they would really enjoy seeing what you could do with it.
I hope your video game turned out (or is working out) to your satisfaction.
I think you really have something happening with your animating and I hope you follow that interest as far as yu can go with it.
Fred E. your friend.

hi morphapoph, thanks very much my friend, that's really good to hear.

it's been several years since i last collaborated with another artist, so it's comforting to know this so far is working out for both of us.

and it's also given me the confidence to consider approaching another fractal artist here on da. who i think might be interested in some of her work being combined with mine. there will still be lots you and i can do in the future.

the last i heard, smooothe is still hoping to work with me, but his health and real life commitments have been preventing him so far, but he's more interested in the blender side.

eventually it would be cool to have a small collective of people who help me with the art. i'm sure the trance musician has several people his end helping him from time to time.

re the indie video game project, thanks man. and it's in the pre-production stage, so will likely take me years to finish.

i am intending to work on that alongside my music video project. i have no intention of giving either up, and the tech and art i learn from either project can help the other.

Hi Ratty,

Yeah I'm glad you work at a slower pace like I do.
Maybe with the other artist, it will just happen out of the blue lik3 you & I & smooothe.
& I know what you mean about ordinary life butting in a lot lately.
Have you checked out any of the fractal or other group interest collectives around deviantArt (that is, "here")?
I'm a member here although I haven't shared many images t0 the group:
fractalphiles.deviantart.com/
and another one I'm a member of and same story, not many of my images shared:
cyberhippies.deviantart.com/

{I need a proprietor [or 2 or 3] for my images (teehee).}...

Good to hear from you.  I'll be around, now and then anyway... I never know.
C ya, for now...

understood and thanks for the links my friend.

not sure if i've mentioned the following?

i've spent the last few weeks researching into legally free image editing apps, so i can do more texture work outside blender, for both my main projects. i finally settled on paint.net which i've used in the past, as it has a uncluttered interface and some cool and useful plugins.

i've also found a free 2d morphing app, winmorph, which looks powerful enough for some of the other effects i have in mind, despite it being 12 years old, apparently.

not surprisingly, all this has taken up a lot of my time so i've still not got round to experimenting with apo. although i'm looking forward to that when i get a chance.

i've not yet heard back from the fractal artist i sent a note to, but i don't think she's been on da for a couple of weeks.

to sum up, things my end are progressing, just rather slowly, he he.

I don't do much image editing really.  I use Irfanview and sometimes XNView just for image *viewing*.  But Irfanview also has some more obscure capabilities that I use like resizing (etc.) or renaming image batches.  It can be used to add a copyright and watermark... and actually has many capabilities I don't use. It's free as is XNView.
OH... people also make plugins for the program to enhance it, including I think, some photoshop type filters.
It's a very good program and it's been around since Windows 95, I'm sure.

I know at least one person who uses WinMorph. I tried it long ago and found it difficult to use so I gave up.

Heheh... yeah use fractal folks tend to fractal way out - or in - or somehwere - into the fractal fringe.
So we kinda do a disappearing act for a while but I see most names I'm familiar with showing up from time to time even if the person behind the name seems preoccupied by other (read: real life) issues.

Take care & keep on keepin on.

Hi Fred,  Is it possible to get the 2.063d hack? or even earlier?  the old version used a parameter in the xforms called  orient.  it is not a plugin but an  xform characteristic and seems to only have a value of 1 or 0.   I need an old working copy to see what this does, so that i can duplicate the effect in the newer 3d Apo programs.  I think that it may control whether the xform faces left or right, in the frame.  or maybe up or down.....  thanks  T'

Hi T,
The 2.06 3d hack is here (it was the first "3d" version so there isn't an earlier one):
sourceforge.net/projects/apoph…

But I remember you asking me about "orient" a long time ago.  There is no internal "orient" in any Apophysis I'm aware of.  I can't remember what the resolution was to that long ago question - plugin is the only thing I can think of.
(PS: sorry I've been "out to lunch" for a while!)

Hi Fred,
I to have been out to lunch, as you say, lost my wife (cancer) monday, had her in home hospice (nursing here at the house) for the previous 4 months.  tis been a long haul.  And yes I'm fine.  all is taken care of.

on the Issue of the Orient  "thing"  when it is in a transformation, it is always just before the list of variations. I think it is an old parameter  for the individual transformation.  it also only seems to ever have the values of 0,1,2,3 .  am still going through old flames.  also seems to be present in all the flame files just prior to 2.6         I think i need a very old version of apo that works, maybe one of the 1.5 version range , to see what is going on.   If you know anyone who could reactivate an old copy, could you let me know?

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your wife, Tsarvek.
(I do not want to belittle the sorrow you would feel with an emoticon.)

I have some Apo versions before 2.06 (I think almost all Apo versions are 2.0 then a number, btw, like 2.06 - a technicality.  & anyway...).
There was a version from Zueuk that had some hidden Variations but I don't remember Orient being one of them.  That version did not expire.
If I remember there is at least one release of 2.04 that is usable (it has not expired) and it is from Joel Faber but I think there are also other unexpired 2.04 versions.
Before version 1.8 I did not use Apo and I'm nearly positive that no Apo versions from Mark had orient.
If you have or find some parameters showing that word "orient" in them I'd like to see the parameters.
You could search for the text in any collection of parameters you have on your computer and find out pretty quickly, probably.

One other possibility I just thought of, but I think is unlikely, is that orient might be one of the Variable parts of some Variation.
But that would place any flames with orient in the earliest version of Apo that used Variables, and I thought that was 2.05 but I don't remember for sure.

If I can help in some you can think of then let me know.
