hmm, I'm around that area myself (I think, I'm never to sure about L.A. location titles), about 5 minutes from downtown and griffith park.
That's interesting about the "not an 'L.A. person.'" I've lived here pretty much all my life; didn't really consider out of state colleges (hell, or even out of city) so just went local. I hear people from out-of-town say all sorts of things about L.A. - you know: bad traffic; bad air; the generally cold, unsociable, let's-get-on-with-our-lives attitude of the public - but at the end of the day, it's just home. I guess this a little brash of me to say having not lived outside of L.A. for any definitive amount of time.
I've read you fancy yourself an NY (Bronx was it?) person. How's that like? I have a sneaking suspicion that an NY persona is somehow tied with a more worldly opinion. Thoughts?

Well usually the people with recognition makes more posts/are more talented/ have more personality. I'm sorta a bland flavor.

Random Acts of Art Criticism can do wonders for you.
And if you don't want to be the cheery type, just tell some people that you'd like to do art trades with them. That helps you to get recognition (assuming you actually do the trades). Most people are actually waiting for someone else to ask them for a trade, everyone's too afraid to ask.
There are many ways to get recognition without being a forum whore.
