I dropped out of Deviantart for a very long time due to stolen art scandal that happen to SEVERAL friends of mine. I'm starting back up soon due to pressure from some of my friends.

Ah...Just include you're name in you're art work. I'd sugest gradient backgrounds as they're probably harder to hide the name in...

I only put my stamp on pieces that are not copyrighted marital like fan art and stuff.

Well if you feel the material is copyrighted and you shouldn't put your stamp on it, then why complain when you have it stolen..

I only got my seal about a year ago. Also, unless my Signature is the picture then anything can be photoshopped out. Trust me, if I can do it so can everyone on here that has even the most remote photoshop experience. Keep in mind that was seven years ago, DA has cracked down on stolen work quite a bit since then. Heck, even the water mark wasn't an option back then.

I wasn't saying it'd be impossible, just harder. I know it's probably near impossible to stop an image from being stolen but that doesn't mean one shouldn't try...

Very true, that's way I was concerned years ago but now DA is really working hard to prevent artwork from being stole and I agree with you I try everything I can to keep my original work from being stolen, I don't care so much about fan art and such. After all it's someone else's work just redrawn or interpreted by me.

Although, It would be nice if they requested permission to use concepts you come up with before they apply it to their own work. Example, if you've ever heard of pokemon mento, he came up with an evolution for eevee for every element. I wouldn't want to have spent my time creating that if someone else is going to take it. the exception being nintendo and using them in the next game, but that's unlikely to happen...

Well then your getting into concept work and that's a whole other story. Fan art to me is when your taking a already made material and redrawing it (like my piece 'Tifa portrait'). The concept was already done I just redrew her. Fan concepts is when you for example (I'll us Pokemon since were on the subject) create a new pokemon that is not in any previous medium (Comic, TV, Etc.). The pokemon's an original work (as it was you who created it) and therefor it's your property under the right of creative licensing. If by chance someone else would want to use your pokemon concept then they would be required to obtain your permission. (of course there are loopholes like they can state it was a coincidence and if they can prove it then they can get off scott free.)
