We were unscathed by Sandy, despite the breathless
anticipation. Some strong wind gusts and some rain,
and the internet was out overnight but that was about it

Proper information searching skills has been a troublesome part of curricula for at least the last 30 years. Everyone agrees that it's useful knowledge, but somehow pupils and students are supposed to find out on their own, since teachers in general aren't taught how to teach it, which leads to copying of textbook contents, random Googling, all sorts of confusion and very little progress in actual school environments. Introducing a few strategies early on saves a lot of trouble later, I believe.
