So i found your page via your Patreon group, and I'm sad to see that its closing down . I figured I still wanted to reach out to you anyways, because the sole purpose of your group was for artists to help artists with Patreon... and I'm still willing to do so, and am hoping you are still of the same mind.
I havent made a Patreon account yet, but I am planning to sometime this month

Yes, I still want to work with others.
(This is likely going to seem like a mini rant, I am sorry in advance).
I only closed it because:
#1) everyone (except for 1 or 3 people) were ignoring my announcements. As well as mine, and the request of my helper: to respond for brainstorming sessions, and such, were ignored. My co-foinder stopped responding to me, when he tried to put out a requests for others to donate since they were in the group. And, to that:Β I said that, I did not want members to feel pushed to support each other monetarily, that there were other ways we could support each other. After that, he stopped responding to me.
At all.
#2) Also, added to that: yes, I was trying to make a network of artists who could/would work together, support each other... However, the main stipulation for me to network with someone (and if I wouldn't be willing to network with someone, they couldn't be in the group: since their being in it, indicated that I was endorsing them or saying: "I recommend supporting and/or working with this person, I would!" .... If I personally couldn't do that, I didn't want someone thinking that I would, because they were (I hope that all makes sense, I'm on my phone) in my group). All i asked, was that their works, under their professional name (if they had their bloody/violent and erotic 17+ stuff on another account, not under their professional name, I dont care), have to be only family friendly works.
Everyone who I turned away, because they still requested to join when they weren't doing anything that could be considered remotely family friendly (or they had male and female characters exposed (or exposing themselves) here and there in ways that left little or, nothing, to the imagination, those were sometimes scattered in galleries along with works of my little pony, powderpuff girls, pokemon and other kid friendly well known works)....
When I called them on it and refused them entrance, I was swarn at, told that I, and my rules, were stupid, and/or retarded and small minded. I got tired of being called names, having my intelegence questioned and demeaned, and all of that, along with no one responding to Kana (my helper) and I, even my confounder ignoring me..... Well, those are the reasons I closed it.
It was stressful, and my moms got cancer, I'm also not well, haven't been well since I was a young teen, and those two facts, are already stressful enough, never mind dreading logging onto my account here, to see who else hasn't responded, or who else wants to swear at me and call me stupid, and every name in the book(and making up some that weren't in the book).
The reason I want only family friendly creators in my network is because one of my collectors: (a book author who writes some racey romance novels in Amazon's digital marketplace) sits at the computer with her 5-8 year old kids, and they look at every work in my gallery. Her kids have demanded commissions from me, and I want her to know that my part of the net, is safe for them.
She knows that she doesn't need to worry when they say: "we wanna see Aunt Victoria's pictures!", and likewise, I want her and my other collectors to know thatΒ the artists/creators that I link to: are also going to be safe for them. And for other families thay they might tell about my works. If that person has their non-family friendly works under another name, and linked on their site, or linked in their gallery, that's one thing. I just don't want to link in any way, to someone's gallery/site, if they have that stuff mixed in with the family friendly stuff.
And I don't care about the parental filtering on DA, that was for networking on patron, and linking to galleries here, or elsewhere, or websites.
It was hard, to close it. That's why its still physically there. It was painful. I really had hoped to make it work, and a real disappointment.... I'm still upset that I couldn't make it work. I still have every wish to work with others, I just thought that was the best way, and I suppose I was wrong.
Sorry about the long response.
Toria

All of that makes perfect sense and is completely valid. As a professional, the people you associate with are a reflection of what you're willing to accept. I mean thats why brand name companies issue out apologies and pull funding with other parties when said parties end up getting caught doing something they dont agree with.
When i get my Patreon set up, would it be ok to contact you about advice and support, and whatever else your group was initially about? I'd be willing to return the favor.
And its a shame to hear what happened to your group, and I hope you and your mom the best with your health.

Yeah, its fine with me.
And thank you. I appreciate the well wishes, and your comments. In all honesty, though, I haven't done anything, myself, with Patreon. I've been there for almost a year and had no one offer support. My collectors/clients either are afraid to get involved with crowd funding, or they can't afford it. As long as its something I can do, I'll be glad to help however I can, though.

no problem, and from what i've been gathering from people who've been successful with Patreon and those who havent, its all about your marketing strategy and advertisement.. which isnt a surprise at all. I mean, the pet rock was a thing that made multiple people wealthy. Do you have a fb fan page? I was thinking of actually doing something similar to your group in principle; patreon creators assisting one another in being successful and all.
One of the big things I've seen as important, is getting over that hump of the first 100 patrons, and from those I've spoken to who are successful, the best way to do it is to get the ball rolling with pledging back and forth between creators to inflate the appearance of financial support and quality of product. Essentially the whole idea of people not wanting to eat at empty restaurants, so you have to populate it to make it look more like people are enjoying the food.
From there its community outreach via social media, because theres always people wanting to spend money. Just have to find people you can communicate with and convince them they want to spend money on you.
Β Im sure you know all of that already, but i kinda just wanted to explain my general thought process on how to get this to work

Yeah, your right, I knew that.
That was why I made the group in the first place.
I just have issues figuring out social media, in all honesty.
I have PTSD.... Have had it since I was about 8 years, and that sort of makes me a bit antisocial.
So, when it comes to networking, and scosial media, I'm floundering.
I do have a Facebook, twitter, linkedIn and tumblr, though.... (Well, more than those, but there's nothing in the other accounts much yet).
Just opened an etsy shop, a few minutes ago, as well.
If you want to connect on any of them, I'll give you my info. Just let me know.
Back to the subject of the group, though:
Patreon started (after I had already made this group) their own forum like community.
It's in beta, still, I think.
They let creators in whenever they get to that, if the person knows to sign up. So, that would probably suffices for what both you and I are trying to do.
They only recently approved and let me into it. Like, a week or so ago.
I'm waiting to say anything there until I get my Patreon edited, though.
Right now, its a mess because I'm doing an overhaul.
I don't know what to say, what to leave out. So I'm saying everything on Live journal and only saying parts on Patreon, with adding, if the reader wants to know more about this or that, they can read more in the LJ link I provide for it.... I tend to be too honest, and want to lay everything (what I do, why I do it, How I got where I am etc...) out there, I get lost in details, and forget that a large portion of people reading these things are use to text acronyms and have a 1 -2 minute attention span.....
I've been told its not good to do that, but I've also been told that I don't say enough about myself or my works, or I say the wrong things, so I hesitate and flounder. Never sure what to write or how to say it.
I'm dyslexic, as well, so that hampers my attempts, as well.
It sounds like you have it all more together, than I do. Anyway. I don't know if I could help you or not, or how. But, I'm still willing to try, if its within my abilities/powers to do so.
I'll pm you the link to the Patreon community, for when you join the site as a creator. You won't be able to see anything until they let you in, whenever that is, though.

Thanks! And yea I've learned from jobs where you're the commercial, and only have 2 minutes tops to tell people what you're doing, and convince them to buy or learn more. Because of that, I'm thinking of having about 6-7 sentences for the pitch portion. Who i am, what im doing, why i need help, and what they'll be receiving in return. Still have to figure out how to package it though. Which has always been a struggle for me, since I'm also aΒ detail oriented person, which causes me to ramble half the time. Neil deGrasse Tyson said in an interview that haikus being amazing because they say so much with so little. So I'm constantly trying to implement that into what I say.
I need to look into Patreon's account layout to figure out where I can place the detail without getting viewers lost in a jungle of information.
Thanks for the link, and im sure we can definitely help each other out; everyone knows something others dont, and every bit of knowledge and experience helps. So I'd definitely be interested in linking up with your social media accounts!
