Hm.. Well.. I usually start with drawing the basic shape of the hair, and then I draw each hair as a line. It's a bit hard to explain. But for dark hair I use e.g. 7B and for lighter hair I sometimes use mechanical pencil. And I add the shadows and highlight as the last thing. But usually depends on what kind of hair and color etc. I still have problems drawing hair myself, so this is just the way I do it..! XD

Thanks for the help! Drawing the individual hairs and then shading is the best way by far to get the best looking result for hair. I bought a mechanical pencil the other day! Finally no more having to sharpen a HB every time I want a fine line haha.

thankyou for your comments and the advice! don't put down the hair in your commission portraits either, i thought it was stunning lol, i find hair the hardest to draw when im doing portraits.

no worries, and i know you've heard it alot but you are a great drawer for your age! it has taken me months and months to get motivated to finish this one drawing but after seeing all your drawings I started working on my portrait again!
