This film paints a very bleak and realistic picture of what happens when a child can’t approach thier family for guidance as they’re emerging into puberty without being met by scourn, schools that don’t provide standard sexual eductaion classes and the consequences of their naivetty being exploited.
This is very much a domestic drama with most of the scenes taking place inside the house. The lawns are neatly trimmed and the bushes are pruned and the interior deco seems very sterile and bare, it’s too clean and gives an almost uncomfortable atmosphere to the house she lives in and the neighbourhood.
The score by Thomas Newman is often a significant element in the film. It builds up tension in the fast paced percussion solos and it also carries the audience away in the almost surreal meditative instrumentals and eerie string music . There’s a heavy influence of middle eastern instruments such as the handdrums, tambourines, reed flutes and sometimes feint chanting incorporated into the music which adds a special touch to the film. We’re also reminded of Jaziras heritage on another level that might not be recogniseable until you walk away, and the end credit songs will definately stick with you ong after you’ve seen the movie.

Film review – towelhead.
Towelhead is the story of 13 year old Jazira Maroun who is sent to live with her estranged father by her self-absorbed mother. The film is adapted from the novel by Alicia Erian of the same name. Be warned - the film is confronting and cringe inducing from the very first scene in which Jazira’s mum’s boyfriend coerces Jazira into letting him shave her bikini line, afterwhich she’s blamed. This is only the first incident where Jazira is blamed for the actions of the adults around her.
She receives a handshake from her abrasive, traditionally lebanese father at the airport instead of an embrace and soon discoveres that things work very differently in her new home. She’s friendless at school due to the racist political climate of the town, lonely in her house as her father is concerned with work and his new girlfriend and desperately seeking affection from any source. Add to the mix the neighbour,the army reservist family man Mr Vuoso, and his growing facination of the 13 year old, and the plot is set. The audience might find themselves overcome with the urge to throttle her parents for their ignorance and selfishness as they go about their own lives with no parental concern for Jazira whilst she;s exposed to situations beyond her understanding and control. Luckily the is atleast one friendly neighbour on the street who takes Jazira under her wing and offers her refuge, but too late.

Ghaaaa, while sitting on the toilet today, I was pondering your skill.
You really do have alot of potential(wether you realise it or not), but you NEED to practice much more!
I'd suggest sticking to linearting your things, and giving them sharp colouring(don't attempt to blend)
