I lived in Regina not a year ago Winnipeg now, but still cool to run by someone so close!

Always neat when the small world that is the internet turns out to be small outside the internet, too.

If you're ever back in the area, feel free to drop me a line, always up for grabbing coffee with random strangers from the intertubes.

Hey, thanks so much for telling me about FotoSource! Haha, they had a sale last week out of my town, but I had london drugs here price match to them. So I got the 40D for $899.

Not a problem at all - glad things worked out well with that - that's a heck of a deal! It's also good just to know they have stores in BC. I've been thinking about a sort of photo-road trip out west - that means 1 less thing to worry about

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

canuckgurl22 In reply to phoenix-enigma [2009-01-27 02:19:54 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they have quite a few stores around me. Mostly closer to Vancouver though. Thanks again!

phoenix-enigma In reply to canuckgurl22 [2009-01-28 06:48:00 +0000 UTC]

Again, good to know - I'm told I have relatives in Vancouver, so that would probably be the area I'd visit anyway. That's mostly pointless information, tho, I suppose

Hope you enjoy the new camera!

Well, I often hold a camera, but if you're referring to my Deviant ID above, then yes, that is me, altho I'm not really a huge fan of that photo.

Any sorts of ideas on what kind of film camera you're interested in?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

phoenix-enigma In reply to sombertattoo [2008-12-30 04:45:06 +0000 UTC]

Idea's for film cameras? Either a nice 6x7 system (maybe the Pentax 6x7 or 67), or a 4x5 field camera. The Bender 4x5 kit really appeals to me - there is something about the idea of building my own camera that I like.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sombertattoo In reply to phoenix-enigma [2008-12-30 05:29:57 +0000 UTC]

The Bender is not too bad of a price.

Then again, if you have the shop you can build one completely yourself

ajinoly [2008-12-09 02:57:12 +0000 UTC]

hey thax for posting for the k10d in the forum. Why'd you go with it over a nikon or a canon? Anything you are unhappy with? How is the lens selection?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

phoenix-enigma In reply to ajinoly [2008-12-10 02:14:57 +0000 UTC]

No problem.

I chose the K10 because I wanted a solid, environmentally sealed camera, and at the time, the other options were a D200 ($$$) or an EOS 1 series ($$$$). I also liked the compatibility with old, sharp, cheap manual focus lenses. Oh, and I really disliked the Nikon ergonomics.

The only thing I don't like is the appearance of the noise at ISO > 1000. The amount isn't too bad compared to it's contemporaries, but it's strong in the blue channel and has a nasty banded/blobby appearance, which makes it hell on skin tones.

The lens selection is great. Everything made by Pentax since c.1976 works on it, and there are current, top rate lenses for pretty much every need. They don't have the exotic wide angles of Nikon or tele's of Canon, but they have their own exotics in the Limited series primes, which are extremely compact, and optically at least as good as, if not better then, anything from the big two. They're closer to Zeiss or Leica glass, but smaller, cheaper, and with autofocus.

There's been a few - I've been busy packing so I haven't had time to get a lot ready for upload - hopefully that will change when I get internet set up at my new place.

Oh, and I suspect my new devID is in with the pics you and Corey took yesterday. Until then, I didn't have any new, good pictures (unless you want to take some?)
